Blumhouse's upcoming horror feature The Black Phone has officially landed a January 2022 release date. Jason Blum launched his production company, Blumhouse, in 2000. Blumhouse is at the top of the horror industry and behind the hits including Get Out, the Paranormal Activity franchise, Creep, Halloween and more. Blumhouse launched a series called Into The Dark with Hulu and recently signed a movie deal with Amazon.

Universal and Blumhouse will release The Black Phone in theaters on Friday, January 28, 2022. Scott Derrickson is the director of the upcoming horror thriller. Derrickson is best known for directing and writing Doctor Strange which released in 2016. He is also working as an executive producer for the upcoming Marvel sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. His other credits include several horror features like Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Derrickson's roots in the industry come from the horror genre so he is certainly a winning choice for Blumhouse's upcoming feature. The Black Phone film was adapted from a short story from Joe Hill's anthology 20th Century Ghosts. Derrickson is also the mastermind behind adapting the short story to the film medium along with C. Robert Cargill. The pair recently signed a deal with Blumhouse so more collaborations are to be expected. Starring in the film is four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames in his film debut.

The Black Phone follows Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
