Toxic Avenger Remake Casts Taylour Paige

Taylour Paige has been cast in the Toxic Avenger reboot. The "contemporary reimagining" of the 1984 Troma horror-comedy about a gangly New Jersey janitor transforming into a gruesome crimefighter was first announced in 2010. However, the project became much more concrete when Macon Blair (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore) took over as writer-director in 2019 and, last year, when Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage signed on for the title role. After adding Jacob Tremblay in mid-April, Legendary's remake of the cult classic is starting to build out its cast

Now, Deadline reports Paige has been tapped as the female lead in the Toxic Avenger update. Fresh off an acclaimed supporting role in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Paige will now get a chance to star in a radically different sort of film. The talented actor should only further cement her status as a rising star as the year goes on, with upcoming appearances in the A24-produced Zola and Lena Dunham's Sharp Stick.

Though Paige's role in the film is unknown, the '80s Toxic Avenger did have a female love interest for the mutated superhuman. In the original, Sara was a blind damsel in distress whom the Toxic Avenger saved from several thugs before the two developed a romance. Whether the reboot will attempt to slot Paige into that role or a more contemporary sort of part with a bit more agency remains to be seen. Still, with a script endorsed by original creator Lloyd Kaufman, the new Toxic Avenger should delight shlock fans everywhere whenever it finally bashes into theaters.
