Space Jam 2 fans are making dark jokes after a cryptic tweet from LeBron James. Releasing this summer in theaters and on HBO Max, Space Jam 2 is the long-awaited and highly-anticipated followup to the 1996 sensation starring NBA great Michael Jordan. The original Space Jam helped cement Jordan’s status as a global icon who transcends basketball, and LeBron is looking to do the same when he and the Tune Squad take the court in Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Early on, LeBron said Space Jam 2 would be a movie centered around family, differentiating it from the first film, which was mostly about Jordan teaming up with the Looney Tunes to defeat the Monstars on the court. Produced by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and helmed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip), A New Legacy centers around LeBron struggling to relate to his teenage son Dom (Cedric Joe), who wants to be a video game developer. After Dom catches the eye of a CGI humanoid Al-G Rhythm (Don Cheadle), LeBron and son are sucked into his virtual reality and their only hope for escape is to assemble the Looney Tunes and defeat the formidable Goon Squad on the court.

LeBron James has shown he is not afraid to make controversial statements on Twitter regarding politics and police brutality, but the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is now making waves for a cryptic tweet that appears to be Space Jam related. The tweet reads, “It’s all fun and games until the [rabbit] got the gun!” Twitter users familiar with Space Jam quickly jumped on the mysterious nature of LeBron’s tweet and began making dark jokes. LeBron’s tweet appears to be a riff on the popular meme, “Ain't no fun when the rabbit got the gun,” which originated as saying that basically means “the shoe’s on the other foot.” In the case of Space Jam, it likely refers to a role reversal between Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, a recurring Looney Tunes villain who hunts rabbits with a double-barreled rifle.

Whether or not this tweet is even related to the plot of Space Jam 2 is unclear. Maybe LeBron is just bored or blowing off some steam after sitting out a month due to a high ankle sprain only to reinjure it in his return last week.
