Obi-Wan Tells The Jedi Council To F-ck Off In Hilarious Star Wars Edit

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) tells the Jedi Council to “f-ck off” in a hilarious Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith edit. The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which is currently in production, will take place ten years after the events of Episode III. It will likely explore “Ben” Kenobi’s time on Tatooine, protecting Luke Skywalker from the influence of the Galactic Empire. In his isolation, Obi-Wan will undoubtedly reflect upon his failure as a mentor to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) and a member of the Jedi Council.

The Jedi Order was essentially at the height of its power during the Star Wars prequels. Headquartered on Coruscant, the Jedi Council, led mainly by Yoda and Mace Windu, governed the order before the fall of the Republic. The Galactic Empire’s rise is arguably a result of the council’s prejudices. In its arrogance, the order involved itself in politics and even helped Chancellor Palpatine, a.k.a., Darth Sidious, gain power as his ignorant police force. On top of that, their handling of the “Chosen One” exacerbated the birth of Darth Vader. Obi-Wan, while on the council, understands that a Jedi shouldn’t interfere in areas that are not their expertise. If he could go back, he might have some choice words for his fellow Jedi.

YouTuber Janobot recently posted a video of Obi-Wan interrupting a Jedi Council meeting from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The edited scene sees Anakin, who is a Jedi Master but not on the council, inform his superiors of a recent move by Palpatine. Then, McGregor as the titular character from Netflix's Halston, tells everyone else in the room to “f-ck off.” Check out the video below:

Though the prequel trilogy is one of the most divisive parts of Star Wars canon, McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan is beloved. That said, seeing McGregor stick it to the council is cathartic for longtime fans of the franchise. Much of what fans didn’t like about the prequels revolved around its lackluster political intrigue—which begins and ends with mistakes made by the council. Aside from Anakin, and perhaps the audience, the only person who ever went against the council was Qui-Gon Jinn, who passed on an opportunity to sit on the council and never seemed to have any qualms about bending the rules.

The biggest criticism anyone can direct towards Obi-Wan is his lack of agency; he wasn’t a maverick like his master and elects to grow old and do nothing on Tatooine before Star Wars: A New Hope. Thankfully, like the prequels deconstructing the Jedi Order’s mythical status established by the original trilogy, Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series should contextualize Obi-Wan’s time watching over Luke. With Christensen set to reprise his role as Anakin/Darth Vader (flashbacks to the pair’s experiences during The Clone Wars?), fans might even get to see more of the Jedi Council. However, it’s safe to assume McGregor won’t be telling them to “f-ck off.”
