Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed a ton of information about Black Widow during the recent watch party. After years of development and delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Natasha Romanoff's first (and likely her last) solo adventure is finally playing in theaters. Although its box office numbers aren’t as great as some would have hoped, Black Widow broke pandemic records with a $219 million opening weekend worldwide, an impressive feat considering its simultaneous release on Disney+ Premier Access.

Due to her heroic self-sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow flashes back to a point in the MCU timeline between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, as Natasha is on the run from Secretary Ross (William Hurt). The first phase 4 film flashes back further than that to Nat’s childhood in Ohio with her surrogate family, comprised of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov, a.k.a. Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz). With the concept of family as its emotional throughline, Black Widow bids farewell to Natasha while also passing her mantle onto a new character into the MCU.

Kevin Feige took over the Marvel Studios Twitter account for a recent watch Black Widow party, answering questions from fans and revealing a ton of new behind-the-scenes information. For starters, the opening flashback scenes set in Ohio were shot in Rome, Georgia, because of the resemblance to rural Ohio. Immediately after, the scene where they meet up with Dreykov (Ray Winstone) in Cuba was shot on an old World War II military base in London with VFX creating sunny blue skies.

Answering a few fan questions, Feige revealed his favorite scene Black Widow is the second dinner scene, which he calls “the heart of the movie,” and this dysfunctional spy family dynamic was the most exciting part of Natasha’s history to explore. According to Feige, the film is set when it is to explore what Natasha was up to in between the time she left Tony Stark in Civil War and when she met up with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson in Infinity War.

Other than answering fan questions and revealing production details, the Marvel boss also had a few teases for the future of the MCU. Feige reiterated he wants to see Harbour’s character again and even expressed interest in seeing a showdown between Red Guardian and Sam Wilson’s Captain America. Feige also wants to see some of the movie's side characters return, such as Rick Mason (O. T. Fagbenle), but was noticeably hush about Yelena’s involvement in Hawkeye, though did say fans will soon find out if she was dusted during Thanos’ snap. While Black Widow seemed like an aside at times, Feige’s teases hint it could have huge ramifications on the future of the MCU.
