Fictional tabloid, Weekly World News, is launching an entertainment division titled Weekly World News Studios, and its first feature film will be The Zombie Wedding. WWN was first founded in 1979 and has since published over 110,000 articles with over 300 original characters. The outlet is most renowned for its Bat Boy segments, which inspired a musical of the same name.

Deadline confirms that Weekly World News is developing its first feature film titled The Zombie Wedding. The Zombie Wedding will be based on an interactive play of the same title written by WWN’s current Editor-in-Chief, Greg D’Alessandro. The upcoming Zombie Wedding feature has been dubbed a horror comedy with music. D'Alessandro will work on the project alongside Tony Award winner, Tonya Pinkins. D'Alessandro is confident that The Zombie Wedding is the perfect adaption to launch WWN's new studio. Additionally, zombie movies like Army of the Dead have been successful as of late. Read D'Alessandro's statement below:

Our goal is to bring a sense of joy, amazement and surrealist fun to all our projects. Zombie Wedding is the perfect project to launch our studios. It’s done extremely well as an interactive theatrical event with audiences of all ages. We know film audiences will have a blast watching the film adaptation.

In addition to movies, Weekly World News Studios will also be developing TV series and podcast projects based on WWN's database. The entertainment division was created due to the "enormous amount of interest in the WWN IP over the last few years," according to D'Alessandro. It wouldn't be surprising if WWN was inspired by the success Marvel and other comic/supernatural print series have had in transitioning to the screen.

The synopsis for The Zombie Wedding reads as follows: A young South Carolina couple decides to go through with their long-awaited wedding – during the Zombie Apocalypse. Unfortunately, he’s a zombie and she’s not. Their families are nervous, but the humans prove to be overly judgmental. When the zombies begin feeling brain deprived, the ceremony takes a turn for the weird. WWN reporters are there to cover this wild wedding, while trying to get out alive.
