Condiment King Confronts James Gunn About Not Being In The Suicide Squad

Comedian Chris Killian has confronted James Gunn while dressed as the obscure supervillain Condiment King over the character being snubbed from inclusion in The Suicide Squad. Killian had previously commissioned a custom fan-poster featuring himself as Condiment King in the style of the character posters released for the film back in March. Condiment King first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series and was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm as throwback to the campy, vibrant villains that appeared in the 60s Batman TV show starring Adam West.

The Suicide Squad sees a number of Z-tier supervillains being recruited by Viola Davis' Amanda Waller to undertake a dangerous black-ops mission, with members including Flula Borg's Javelin, Sean Gunn's Weasel, Daniela Melchior's Ratcatcher II, and David Dastmalchian's Polka-Dot Man. Gunn has previously stated that he wanted to showcase a range of obscure DC supervillains, but had deliberately chosen Polka-Dot Man for the film because he believed him to be the dumbest supervillain ever, and wanted to bring depth to the character.

As part of Comicbook.com's Daily Distraction, Killian once again donned the bright blue unitard of Condiment King to confront James Gunn during an interview. Gunn apologized to the character for not including him in the movie, but pointed out that he has "a guy with a javelin already. You know, javelins, condiments. Equally unhelpful to the battle". Hilariously, when the issue of Polka-Dot Man being dubbed the dumbest character was raised, Killian asked who Gunn thought was the most handsome, to which Gunn responded: "definitely Condiment King!"

Gunn does raise a good point that condiments would be incredibly useless on the battlefield. While polka-dots are arguably the same, they usually have a number of useful effects. Moreover, the director has seemingly taken strides to fully round out the character and bring a deep-seated sadness to the character that exists beneath the apparent silliness. It's not exactly whether the same could be achieved with a character like Condiment King who perhaps sits too far into the realm of the ridiculous. Still, it would be fun for the character make an appearance in a cameo, potentially as some deep-seated nemesis of Polka-Dot Man.

Javelin is another matter however. Such things are certainly not particularly useful in the kind of warzone that Task Force X will be traveling to, from the trailers it seems as though Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is putting it to good use. This, of course, raises the question of what exactly happens to Javelin for him not be able to wield his signature weapon, with many speculating that he many be one of the many casualties of the mission. Who else makes it out alive will remain a mystery until The Suicide Squad releases on August 5th.
