Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie shares a new behind-the-scenes photo from Mission: Impossible 7 uniting Ethan Hunt's world-saving team. Plot details are still unknown for the next film in the Tom Cruise-led franchise but the cast will see the return of multiple series vets including Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Czerny and Vanessa Kirby. It will also include multiple Mission: Impossible newcomers including Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Cary Elwes and Esai Morales as the villain.

Development on Mission: Impossible 7 was officially announced nearly six months after the release of Mission: Impossible — Fallout and was going to be shot back-to-back with the untitled eighth film. However, both films have seen numerous hiccups due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with production shut down multiple times on Mission: Impossible 7 and Paramount electing to cancel the consecutive shooting schedule for eighth and delaying its release by a year. This also led to changes in the cast for both films, with Angela Bassett having to step back from reprising her role as CIA Director Erika Sloane and Nicholas Hoult being replaced by Morales for the villain role due to scheduling conflicts.

As production continues on the highly-anticipated film, McQuarrie took to Instagram to share a new BTS photo from the Mission: Impossible 7 set featuring Tom Cruise's Hunt and his team together. The photo also features First Assistant Director Mary Boulding front and center to celebrate her 100th day on the film, which is her first project working as a First AD.

Throughout its elongated production, McQuarrie has become well-known for sharing photos from the set of Mission: Impossible 7, either introducing a new cast member or teasing the next bombastic set piece audiences can look forward to. However, his followers have also become familiar with the writer/director leaving a good portion of his posts with out a caption or with a simple ellipses to leave the mystery as to what exactly is happening in each image. This secretive trend has finally been broken for his latest BTS photo and while it may not offer much in the way of what to expect from the story, the heartfelt message McQuarrie has sent to Boulding should come as a happy change of pace for his followers.

While there may not be any confirmed final date for when production on Mission: Impossible 7 will finally conclude, recent posts from the cast and McQuarrie have showed strong progress. Elwes announced his work having wrapped a few weeks ago while Ferguson revealed just last week she had finished filming and given her key role in the films of late it seems likely the film will finally wrap sometime soon. The film is currently slated to hit theaters in May 2022 followed by a Paramount+ streaming debut 45 days after.
