Warzone's Tempered Perk Apparently Makes Ladder Climbing Impossible

A new perk in Call of Duty: Warzone seems to cause a glitch that prevents those using it to climb ladders in-game. The perk, known as Tempered, grants players the ability to fully refill their armor with just two plates rather than three, which makes applying armor a much faster and less resource-consuming process. The perk was added alongside new weapons, operators, and more as part of the delayed Warzone Season Five.

Call of Duty: Warzone is a massively popular battle royale game that initially launched as part of 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot. As a live-service experience, Warzone is constantly receiving new content via a seasonal model to keep things fresh. Among the regularly upgraded and refreshed additions are perks, which are special abilities that players can equip to give them special advantages in combat, exploration, and support scenarios. Some examples of popular perks are Overkill, which lets players equip two primary weapons in their loadout, and Ghost, which protects players against detection devices like UAVs. In addition to bolstering the game with additional content, developers at Raven Software regularly have to address a number of frustrating glitches, a recent example being a bug that lets Warzone players see through walls.

A new glitch appears to have reared its ugly head, according to a recent video shared by a user called AmEn-MiNii on Reddit. In the clip, AmEn-MiNii can be seen attempting to climb a ladder inside of a warehouse with no success. AmEn-MiNii tries swapping weapons and even dropping some of their equipment on the ground to try and remedy this issue, but nothing seems to work. AmEn-MiNii states that they were able to climb the ladder just before equipping the Tempered perk, leading them to surmise that the shield-boosting buff is likely the cause of the issue. One of AmEn-MiNii's teammates, who presumably did not have Tempered equipped, was able to climb the ladder successfully, lending further credence to this theory.

Raven Software has somewhat of a mixed track record when it comes to fully fixing glitches in Warzone. Many bugs can be patched out with little issue while others, like the undying invisibility glitch, seem to be harder to stamp out. Losing the ability to climb ladders can be extremely detrimental to Warzone players, as the game's verticality and focus on exploration make traversing the landscape an absolute necessity.

The pervasiveness of the ladder-climbing glitch is unclear at this time. Trouble climbing ladders could be the result of a confluence of any number of issues behind the curtain of the game, although Tempered does look to have a hand in the bug based on the evidence presented. Hopefully, Raven Software can be prompt in remedying this problem.
