Rocket League's New Ratchet & Clank Cosmetics Are Free On PS4 & PS5

Brand-new Ratchet & Clank cosmetic items have been added to Rocket League for free on PlayStation consoles. A cartoonish platformer series from Insomniac Games, Ratchet & Clank has been a staple of Sony's lineup of PlayStation exclusives since the series began in 2002. Comparatively, Rocket League is a much younger title, but Psyonix's vehicular soccer spectacle is considered to be one of the industry's best free-to-play games.

The enduring popularity of Ratchet & Clank has led to several crossovers with other popular titles over the years. The most recent installment in the franchise, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, makes numerous cartoony references to different video game and film franchises. Some of Rift Apart's Easter eggs include references to other Sony-owned properties, such as LittleBigPlanet and Knack. On the other side of the coin, an abundance of content from Ratchet & Clank recently made its way into another popular game: the indie competitive platformer Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. A recent event in Fall Guys added Ratchet & Clank items such as themed skins and challenges.

Developer Psyonix revealed an upcoming crossover between Rocket League and Ratchet & Clank. The upcoming update, launching exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on August 18, will allow players to claim a free Ratchet & Clank bundle when they log into the game. The bundle will include a Ratchet & Clank decal, a Negatron Collider Boost, and two balloon toppers depicting the lovable platformer protagonists. The August 18 update will also add a new Performance Mode to Rocket League on PlayStation 5, allowing players to experience the game at 120 frames per second. Quality mode, meanwhile, allows the game to run at 4k resolution.

While Ratchet & Clank is known for crossover references and Easter eggs, Rocket League is no stranger to collaboration either. The rocket-powered soccer simulator recently added James Bond's iconic Aston Martin, allowing fans to boost around like 007. The memorable movie vehicle comes complete with unique engine sounds, custom decals and authentically designed wheels. The addition of the Aston Martin also came along with a tease that more cars inspired by the James Bond franchise will be coming to Rocket League in the future.

A collaboration between Ratchet & Clank and Rocket League is a bit unexpected, but the two games do have some elements in common. Fast-paced action with a sci-fi aesthetic is featured across both titles, so Insomniac Games' beloved duo does fit into Psyonix's Rocket League with little issue. Stepping into a rocket racer decked out in Ratchet & Clank decals, PlayStation players can look forward to the Rocket League crossover starting August 18.
