Life is Strange: True Colors Gameplay Shows Alex's Power In Action

Alex’s empathetic powers are shown again in a new trailer for Life is Strange: True Colors. Square Enix debuted the next entry of Life is Strange with Life is Strange: True Colors in March during the Square Enix Presents live event. It marks the first entry in the series to be developed without an episodic format. Additionally, Life is Strange, and Life is Strange: Before the Storm are getting a remaster bundle that comes with the Ultimate Edition of the game and is also sold separately. The bundle has been delayed until 2022 but will still be available for free for those who bought the True Colors ultimate edition.

Life is Strange: True Colors features an all-new protagonist in Alex Chen. Alex possesses the psychic power of Empathy. While empathy means the ability to feel or understand what another person is feeling, True Colors turns this up to another level for Alex. She can feel what another person is feeling emotionally and absorb it and change the emotion. This power will aid Alex in her quest to solve the mystery surrounding her brother’s death and figure out other secrets hidden within the small town.

In a new trailer shown during Gamescom 2021 and posted to GamesRadar's YouTube channel, Alex is seen talking with an older woman running a flower shop who appears to be suffering from a disease which impairs her memory. Alex uses her power to understand the fear the shopkeeper is feeling toward her condition, which is shown as a purplish aura. While the clip doesn’t show how Alex solves the shopkeeper’s problem, it begins to demonstrate how players can use Alex's empathetic power to aid the residents of Haven Springs in True Colors.

This trailer comes after another reveal earlier this month which showed the opening of Life is Strange: True Colors. Solving dark mysteries won’t be the only thing that players will experience in True Colors. Alex will familiarize herself with the other residents, help create music with returning character Steph, and more. DLC was also announced for True Colors in the form of Wavelengths. Focusing on Steph and her radio show, Wavelengths will further develop the returning character. In the base game, players will have the option to romance Steph or another new character, Ryan, throughout the game.

With the next step in Life is Strange’s evolution as a series, Deck Nine hopes to recapture the magic of the first game that earned the original developer acquisition offers. Forgoing the episodic format that the series is known for, True Colors looks to become another stellar entry in the already impressive Life is Strange franchise.
