The Wheel of Time released a new clip, teasing the main premise of the upcoming series. The Wheel of Time is based on a series of fourteen high fantasy novels by Robert Jordan. The series will follow Rosamund Pike's Moiraine, a member of the Aes Sedai, an organization of magic-using women, as she takes five young people on a journey around the world. During the journey, Moiraine is hoping to prove one of them is the reincarnated Dragon, an individual prophesied to save the world or destroy it.

The Wheel of Time series was ordered by Amazon to premiere on November 19 with eight episodes. The show has long been in development, with Pike filming scenes as early as 2019. Multiple delays came due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the multiple rewrites that come from adapting a work with such a massive amount of source material. The series will be run by Rafe Judkins, known for his work on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The newly released Wheel of Time clipon Twitter, depicts Moiraine getting dressed in a castle-like setting and describing the events of the world that led to the events of the series, where men believed they could control darkness, leading to a cataclysmic event. She then describes the salvation of the world coming from one called Dragon. Moiraine later states her intention to find the newly reincarnated Dragon before the darkness does. Check out the new clip below:

The Wheel of Time series has already been renewed for a second season, which began filming in July 2021. The show will also feature a large group of unknown actors, with Pike being the only big name associated with the series. Similar to Game of Thrones, this may be a tactic used to keep star power from overwhelming the mythology and world-building of the story.

With Game of Thrones still fresh in the minds of viewers, The Wheel of Time is one of several shows trying to fill the shoes of the landmark series, along with Netflix's The Witcher and Amazon's own upcoming The Lord of the Rings remake. With high fantasy being a niche genre in the best of times, it's unlikely that The Wheel of Time will have the same cultural impact that GoT did during its eight seasons. Though with an appreciation for the source material, a steady hand on the world-building, and a strong lead performance from Pike, The Wheel of Time could shape up to be a show that pleases high fantasy fans everywhere.

The Wheel of Time premieres on Amazon on November 19.
