The Jason Sudeikis Blue Beetle casting rumor has been debunked. One of Warner Bros.' upcoming DC adaptations for the big-screen and directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the Blue Beetle movie story centers around Jaime Reyes becoming the titular teenage superhero after he one day discovers an alien scarab. Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña will bring the hero to life, with Blue Beetle set to be the first major superhero movie led by a Latino character from a Latino filmmaker.

Something that is becoming standard for the comic book movie genre is the endless cycle of speculation. Whether it be storylines, costumes, or even casting choices, the DCEU isn't immune to getting inundated with rumors, which sometimes create a false narrative for what WB is actually doing with their movies. Recently, there were rumblings that Ted Lasso star Sudeikis was set to play Ted Kord in Blue Beetle. A casting call had gone out that was looking for a body double with a picture that had features similar to Sudeikis.

It didn't take long before the casting call gained some major attention online, while nothing was confirmed by Warner Bros. or DC Films. However, the Sudeikis Blue Beetle casting rumor has now been debunked. TheWrap's Umberto Gonzalez confirms that not only is Sudeikis not playing Kord in the DCEU film, he isn't part of the cast at all.

While the Sudeikis casting rumor proved false, there is some evidence to suggest that the character of Ted Kord will feature in Blue Beetle. The first bit is that Kord Industries can be seen in the official Blue Beetle costume concept art, which is Ted's company in the comics. Another key ingredient is that one of the many confirmed cast members is Susan Sarandon, who is officially set to portray the villain Victoria Kord, an original character for the film. While Victoria will serve as the antagonist, she is reportedly going to be Ted's wife. It's also worth noting that, in the comics, Ted held the mantle of Blue Beetle before Jaime.

Even if Ted ends up not being in Blue Beetle, that doesn't mean he won't appear in sequels, as the director has confirmed he has ideas for future installments. Given Ted and Jaimie's shared ties in the Blue Beetle mythology, it would only make sense for Ted to show up down the line. Whether he would suit up as well or mentor Jaime throughout his heroic journey, there is so much the Blue Beetle franchise could do with that relationship. With the Blue Beetle movie release date set for summer 2023, the studio's plan for the movie should become clearer with time.
