Cricket: Donald impressed with Ebadot's efforts

Allan Donald, Bangladesh bowling coach, said on Wednesday that he is impressed with pace bowler Ebadot Hossain and feels that he has started to understand his role better in red-ball cricket.

Ebadot, who was picked in the playing eleven after Shoriful Islam was ruled out from the second Test due to a fractured finger, has only picked two wickets so far in the first innings.

However, Donald is not bothered about what was there on the scoreboard.

''Test cricket bowling on flat decks is about aggressive bowling and putting thoughts of getting thrashed out of mind. Ebadot reached 146.7 km/h and that's what he's capable of,'' Donald told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

''Ebadot was outstanding today. You know when you see someone in the warm-up, and you know something about him will click today. The scoreboard doesn't reflect the way he bowled today. He could have walked away with four or five wickets and that's what the spell was worth,'' he said.

''I told him (Ebadot) to ask for the ball again after tea, to change the line to come in here (chest area) for a few. Mathews was almost caught at deep-square. I think Ebadot is understanding that on flat wickets, to come in hard for four overs, set the field like you want,'' he said.

''I think that's the freedom we want within the bowling attack, for guys to tell Mominul what they need, the field that they want, and trust them,'' he said.

''I want him to ask for the ball. I think he is starting to figure out his role as Ebadot,'' he said.

Donald added that team director Khaled Mahmud is making sure that his message is delivered perfectly to his charges considering the language barrier.

''I always make sure that chacha [Khaled] is close by especially when we sit for three hours rain delay. We do not talk during delays but during all the breaks we get inside the dressing room, I always make sure there is someone that understands, making sure the message I give to them is delivered properly. Rabeed [media manager] was in South Africa and made sure we don't miss anything in terms of the language barrier. Sometimes it can be, at the start it was in South Africa but I think we're getting there,'' said Donald

''Ebadot and Khaled getting the gist of English so I think the delivery of the message needs to be accurate. We don't speak too differently either when it comes to strategic plan...so that it gets delivered. It's okay,'' he said.

'I make sure I am not an overload bloke. My way is to reiterate. I don't give a guy sixteen plans a day to try and do. It's about the simple things we do well. I always continuously speak to the pacers about our process. Our process is not to look for a outswinger, outswinger, and then inswinger. The process is to find Liton's gloves and that's the Test match process I grew up with and that's how you build that pressure,'' he said.

''The plan is simple and basic and we stick to that. If there is a certain plan with a batter and I notice a flaw in a batsman, we will discuss it to make sure we change that plan and alter it slightly,'' he added.
