One of Scarlett Johansson's strangest auditions was for the Sandra Bullock movie Gravity.

We've seen Scarlett Johansson in many great roles, but there are a couple she missed out on in years past. Recently, Johansson said how she had auditioned but been passed over for roles in Iron Man 2 and Gravity, respectively to Emily Blunt and Sandra Bullock. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote her upcoming film Asteroid City, Johansson shed some new light on her Gravity audition, recalling how it was basically nothing more than sitting on a chair in a space suit and pretending as if there were no gravity.

"I did a screen test for the movie Gravity, that Sandra Bullock is fantastic in, but I had to be in like the full whole space suit thing, and sort of pretend I was kind of like floating in space... even though I was just sitting in a chair with a helmet on," as Johansson remembered.

Released in 2013, Gravity was directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who co-wrote the script with his son Jonas Cuaron. It starred Bullock as an astronaut in outer space trying to return to Earth after the destruction of her space shuttle. The film was a tremendous success, pulling in more than $723 million at the box office. It won seven Academy Awards, including Best Director, while Bullock was also nominated for her role in the film.

In her new movie, Asteroid City, Johansson plays actress Midge Campbell, someone the actress describes as a "sociopath." While she admits to having some things in common in real life with Midge, such as how the two approach acting similarly, she's hoping that this is where the similarities end.

"I never thought about how she would have -- I guess we probably do [have some things in common], because I did have to prepare a piece that she was working on," Johansson says. "So, I think we probably do. She's a sociopath. So, hopefully, we have that not in common."

Asteroid City garnered some praise at Cannes, where it was met with a six-minute standing ovation. While that makes director Wes Anderson uncomfortable, according to Johansson, she says that only makes her enjoy the adulation that much more.

"Somehow, I think because Wes [Anderson] is so uncomfortable. It somehow makes me feel better," Johansson explains. "I'm like, 'Oh he's just so uncomfortable at this, I'm good. I'm like, 'I could do this all day.'"

"Somehow, I think because Wes [Anderson] is so uncomfortable. It somehow makes me feel better," she said receiving the accolades. "I'm like, 'Oh he's just so uncomfortable at this, I'm good. I'm like, 'I could do this all day.'"

Johansson is one part of an ensemble cast of Asteroid City, a film set in 1955 that follows students and parents from across the country gathering at the Junior Stargazer convention in a desert town. Other stars of the film include Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edwar Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Maya Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Steve Carell, and Margot Robbie, among other big names.

Asteroid City will be premiering in theaters on June 23, 2023.
