With news of raids, seizures, attacks on torrent sites, the future might not look good for Torrenting. Many sites like Demonoid have been shut down in raids conducted by the authorities. Many others are facing DDoS & other types of attacks which can only be the work of Authorities. Owners’s of these websites are being sued by DMCA & other bodies. Many search engines are now downgrading the rank of torrent sites to promote the riches of some against many.

But will all this result in an end to torrent world? The answer is straight forward- No. No, you cannot curb torrenting as it is run by people for the people. You can shut down torrent sites but then some other site would take its place. You can DDoS as much as you like but sites like PirateBay would cope up with that too. New torrent sites open everyday. Government cannot stop people from sharing what they think is right & until general public are behind torrents no one can stop it.

the problem i have with this is i think the last bit is incorrect, if they wanted to shut down most sites they would by going for the older sites that have release groups, that would suck big time i hope the torrent comunity can outsmart the mafia government :(

Do you know about Oneswarm? You can build private f2f darknets with are way more secure than private trackers

www.oneswarm.org

If you join the community server you can be up and running in about 5 minutes.

The best part is there is no central tracker that can be attacked. To search you just send search request to peers and they send you back results. Since network is large and everyone is relaying data to everyone else it is very difficult for attacker to tell that you download a file or just relay it (if you have good mix of trusted friends and limited friends it is almost impossible). If you only have trusted friends it is impossible to be attacked by snooping- your connections are encrypted using ssl so even ISPs cannot tell difference between Oneswarm traffic and vpn or secure connect to Amazon, etc.
