Win 8 personal opinion thread

So yeah with all the hype going on about it i guess no one can miss the release of Win8.

Now since the whole win8 thing came out i agree with most that this hype is like a new phone. And purely rests on personal taste/opinion

So my thread is neither to promote or demote win8. It is just a personal taste thread and perhaps with some new features we haven't found in other windows versions.

My config right now is a Vista dualbooting win8 (yeah vista :) )

So yeah just installed win8 without much problems, i grabbed one of the keys from another PC :).

But starting here i have some arguments and questions to MS commercial dep..

  • they assume you do an upgrade from previous windows (for now at least) ... euhm ? ewwww
  • they charge hardly anything now yet will charge triple the amount for clean install which is total crap in my opinion (F.Y.I. a clean install can be done with the upgrade CD so those that are doubting but know they will get w8 sooner or later get the discount keys currently 40$ later full package 100$+ :P )
  • for the rest install was fast easy and no issues

    Booting into W8
Your welcomed by a little intro screen which requires you to fill in some info mainly PC name,Timezone,Username + personal info

    • What i hate is the personal info crap. Why are they forcing me to enter my mail adres + name + dob just to boot windows. F* this, stupid commercializing my mails.
    • Then it takes a while to load which isn't that much of a biggy took me +/- 3 minutes

    Finally into W8.

The feared W8 hub! Well wasn't that much of a surprise but still.

Below is now a pure personal piece.

I think it's crap. What does this hub provide me more then an old skool start button? Nothing

The fact you can't disable it is also bull. So yeah they wan't to promote touchscreens + tablets running w8 so why do i need to hub on my desktop.

Oh rightttt to boot my PC and see a messed up tile view since i'm to lazy to organize that crap.

After using it for a while you get used to it but sometimes, depending on program, you get thrown back into the hub which provides me an additional few steps just to get back to desktop.

They should have split the W8 between laptop/tablet setup & desktop setup.

For the rest testing it all out but looks good.

One thing that did surprise me is the claim it can run on allot of older PCs.

Win7 didn't support my mobo anymore so didn't have drivers and missed a few key drivers to switch to W7 hence i stayed on Vista.

But to my surprise W8 found all my drivers and they succeed in the benchmark like the drivers where genuine drivers tuned for the hardware. So aside from the HUB W8 can reach a bigger audience which then explains why they also promote XP users to switch.

The resource footprint is like W7 small and steady. Then again it's a fresh install so will grown according to usage...shame.

Gonna type more according to my experience with W8 but for now i'm still in the grey zone. And once they find to disable the hub again and get my start button back then i'm sold.... yes there are 3rd party tools out for the button but yeah haven't tested them out yet.

Any personal opinions about W8 just fire away.

Find anything cool in W8 post it and share

    Cheers,

    Noobstick

PS: Have some Q about W8 and wan't me to check something or test something go ahead. It's a dummy install for now till i get everything sorted out.

PPS: Who is actually planning to switch to W8?

Working tech support at a university, Windows 8 is a big pain just because nobody here has been trained with it yet. We've had people coming in asking for help and we have no idea how the new interface works. I wish the department would have given us some sort of crash course. From what I've seen, it seems like a pretty neat operating system. However, I think Microsoft is taking a big risk with it...trying to combine desktop/tablet OS. I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to get it myself.

i love win8, the booting so faster than win7

and brought a fresh and eyecatchy interface.

win8 + Office 2013 was the best duet :)

Well been working with it for a while now and yeah the interface i don't really see the uses for it since most stuff boots you back to desktop and then starts.

So yeah i understand they wanna make it easier and more attractive for them to have all users on same interface style.

Other then that no real issues to report except following:

Got the free media center pack and after installing it my W8 is messed up.

I can't update anymore and after a cold reboot it prepares my windows.

Reboot again and all is fine.

So yeah GG microsoft.

As for office 2013 haven't tested it yet but heard nothing but negative comments on it.

I don't find W8 booting that fast.

I mean everything is clean right now so ofc it boots faster in the beginning then an used w7.

Let's discuss boot after installing lots of apps for a couple of months and see if they fixed the chaos-effect in windows.
