I was just wondering why majority of the seedbox(es) providers, most of them wants private trackers instead of public trackers? The concept of P2P or torrents is to share files so that everyone will benefit from one another right? Btw, I purchased a temporary seedbox so that I'll know the feeling of having one. It's the cheapest that I could find. Yes, I was able to get my seedbox in less than 3 hours will lots of opened tickets. But still, I don't have FTP and HTTP access. Guess what? I signed up for the cheapest one month plan of 100tbh. I know I read a lot of negative reviews but still I am curious.

The weird thing is, they allow public and private trackers. But most of the time, only public trackers gets the upload from my seedbox. I deleted the public trackers. For the files under my private trackers, nothing is actually uploaded. Wow.

If someone can offer me a Seedbox (allows public+private trackers or just a private tracker) if possible with a VPN service (US) , please don't hesitate to contact me. My budget for my seedbox is up to $15 and if your service includes VPN it's up to $20.

Oh yeah, can you do VNC with a seedbox? So what's the difference of having a seedbox and having a VPS?

A seedbox in general is used for Private trackers.

You can use them for public trackers but the main point of a seedbox is to have a device that seeds 24/7 so your ratio on private trackers stays good.

The reason why you upload more with public trackers then private is cause of the following reasons:

  • People download more on public trackers because they aren't worried by ratio
  • They don't know what private trackers are
  • People on private trackers seed more then download combine this with limit user base and lot's of seeds means you have lesser chance of having many leechers.

The main difference between VPS & Seedbox is the following.

A seedbox is what the term means purely meant for seeding.

You get a preconfigured webinterface where you can start downloading & seeding torrents. No setup required.

A VPS can also be used as a seedbox but since you have full access you can do something more with it (like stream server for video's)

If you want you can get a VPS with just blank Ubuntu installed and install torrent clients yourself. I've chosen the one with ruTorrent preconfigured.

By default the rest is the same on both boxes depending on what you pay for (Harddrive space, internet connection, memory,etc...)

Normally FTP is configured on most seedbox servers. haven't seen any provider not offering this.

Usually the ftp info = your logon info for the webgui

Mail the seedbox provider for the access

Btw why you need VPN anyways? And one last thing VNC is only usable on a server with desktop software installed.

Most providers don't do it since it's a waste of resources.

Thank you for enlightening me. Yes, I agree that most people does not know what private trackers are. Well, just like what I said, I just wanna do some sort of a "payback", allowing me to download different parts of the file(s) from them. So a seedbox is just for seedbox, it's like buying a uTorrent version, the only difference is, it's online and it does not literally use your ISP's entire bandwidth and make your connection slow, right? VPS, well I guess I need one but I am scared of the setting up thing specially if everything's gonna be done through the Terminal. I need a VPN (U.S) to watch Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime. I subscribed to a temporary one, I am still in the middle of evaluating their service. So far I am not satisfied with them. I signed up for PrivateInternetAccess VPN. Well yeah, I also need a web browser running 24/7 for me, with a specific website running for 24/7 as well, because I needed to appear online 24/7 on that website so that I will be able to receive messages from the people who will contact me. Instead of using my laptop and turning it on fo 24/7, I want a seedbox or a VPS that can do it for me.

The best solution would be then to get a VPS on windows base so you can RDP to that box and leave a uTorrent or other client running 24/7 and leave a site open so you appear online 24/7.

Sorry to say but your 15$ won't cut it since windows is already 15$ on it's own. I think the cheapest windows os is the Windows Web 2008 i believe but can be wrong.

As for setting up VPN i assume you can configure it on windows aswell.

I myself just configure my Putty to act as proxy so when i configure my browser it proxies it through my VPS and i appear to be in the US.

So your VPS is in the U.S? Well it's okay if I'll go for a non-Windows VPS. A linux box would be great, for a change :)
