This is the error which many of you have seen :-

The solution for fixing the error is very easy.

1) Download PuTTY.

2) Run PuTTY.exe and enter your seedbox IP address provided to you.

3)Now this screen will appear asking you your Login Username. Enter your seedbox username

Yeah, this is usefull. I guess there are lot of users out there who doesnt know this.

I use only command:

"screen rtorrent" if it stops running if no need to kill it... i guess doesnt matter. :D

Might be worth mentioning that sometimes it fails to start when you boot your server, in which case:

sudo apt-get install dtach

then edit your rc.local

sudo nano /etc/rc.local

It's going to look like this:

#!/bin/sh -e
#
# rc.local
#
# This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel.
# Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other
# value on error.
#
# In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution
# bits.
#
# By default this script does nothing.

exit 0

And this is what we want to add:

start-stop-daemon --start --chuid USERNAME --name rtorrent --exec /usr/bin/dtach -- -n /tmp/rtorrent.dtach /usr/local/bin/rtorrent

Like so:

#!/bin/sh -e
#
# rc.local
#
# This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel.
# Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other
# value on error.
#
# In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution
# bits.
#
# By default this script does nothing.

start-stop-daemon --start --chuid USERNAME --name rtorrent --exec /usr/bin/dtach -- -n /tmp/rtorrent.dtach /usr/local/bin/rtorrent

exit 0
