A Facebook spokesperson has denied yesterday's New York Times report that claimed the social networking company was planning to redesign the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to feature the Facebook interface and logo.
Facebook has "no plans" to rebrand the device, the spokesperson told re/code. Right now, the only version of Oculus Rift available is the development kit; the consumer version will come sometime in the future.
Mark Zuckerberg's social networking company bought Oculus VR yesterday in a surprise deal worth an estimated $2 billion. According to executives at Oculus VR, the deal was completed in just three days.
In the wake of the deal, Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson canceled a VR version of the sandbox game and Kickstarter backers raged against the sale. Oculus Rift creator Luckey says he's hearing more positive feedback than negative and believes coming together with Facebook is the right move to help VR go mainstream.
