'American Idol' Recap: The Judges Refuse To Save The Flower Child

It's the end of the road for Majesty Rose, as the 22-year-old flower child was voted off "American Idol" on Thursday.

Rose was bounced after her performance of Florence + the Machine's "Shake It Out" on Wednesday's performance episode. It earned solid reviews from the judges but not enough support from voters. Rose didn't seem too surprised by the results, and after landing in the bottom three the last two weeks, perhaps she shouldn't have been.

Here's how Thursday's results shook out:

Majesty Says Goodbye

"I think you're so close to breaking through in this competition," Harry Connick Jr. told Rose after her performance Wednesday. But she won't get another shot, as her third time in the bottom three turned out to be her last.

Rose sang for the judge's save, bopping around the stage to Pharrell's "Happy," but the judges didn't give her anything to be happy about. "This has been the hardest deliberation from us, it really has," Keith Urban told her after the performance. "We gotta agree and by a narrow, narrow margin, we are not gonna use that save tonight."

Rose kept an upbeat attitude over her dismissal, at least on camera. "Oh my gosh, I don't want to cry on TV," she could be heard saying as her season's highlight reel aired.

Sam Woolf, C.J. Harris Dodge A Bullet

Sam Woolf was in the bottom three for a second time, and C.J. Harris made his first appearance in the "Idol" basement on Thursday. Both were spared, although the clock could be ticking for both of them.

Mentor Randy Jackson gave high marks to Caleb Johnson, Malaya Watson and Jena Irene for this week's performances, and said the rest better start stepping it up. "The cream is starting to rise to the top," he said.

Janelle Monae Hits The Stage

Sparkplug live performer Janelle Monae appeared onstage to perform "What Is Love," her song from the "Rio 2" soundtrack. Monae turned the studio into an all-out party, and was joined by an army of dancers as confetti rained from the rafters during her performance.

It wasn't the first time "Rio" has taken center stage on "Idol": will.i.am performed "Hot Wings (I Wanna Party)," his song from the soundtrack to the first film, on the show back in 2011. (Both "Rio" and "Rio 2" are distributed by 20th Century Fox, obvs.)

Contestants Revisit Their Audition Songs

Next week, the top eight will revisit their audition songs, the songs viewers and the judges first got to know them by. Ideally, there will have been some improvement from then to now.

On Thursday's 30-minute result episode, one singer will vie for the judge's save, which is only available through the top six.
