35 years after Don Coscarelli’s first Phantasm film became a cult horror classic, an unexpected fifth installment has been revealed. Most surprising of all, it’s already complete. Don't believe us? Here's the teaser trailer to prove it:
We now also know who’s directing (er, directed) the new film and which characters are returning. EW has confirmed “that Phantasm: Ravager is directed by filmmaker and artist David Hartman, whose résumé includes the TV show Transformers Prime and the Rob Zombie videos American Witch and Lords of Salem. Hartman also worked on the films Bubba Ho-Tep and John Dies at the End, both of which were directed by Phantasm overlord Don Coscarelli. Coscarelli himself cowrote Phantasm: Ravager”.
Fans of the franchise will be delighted to learn that Angus Scrimm (who appears to have remained 90 years old for the past 40 years) reprises his role as the iconic villain The Tall Man. Other returning cast members include Michael Baldwin, Reggie Bannister, Bill Thornbury and Kat Lester.

Filming for Ravager took place in and around SoCal over the last two years and somehow almost totally escaped detection. Dread Central had a bead on this back in 2012 but they were largely shouted down when Coscarelli and co. denied anything was going on.
No plot details or release dates have been revealed but Coscarelli did say the new movie would feature (20-year-old spoiler alert) “an extended sequence on the Tall Man’s home world.”
We live in heady times, people.
