Star Citizen Flies Past $41,000,000 in Crowd Funding: Gets Procedural Tech to Create Whole Planets

Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen has been smashing crowd funding records over and over, and it just overtook the mind-boggling amount of $41 million in pledges, sitting comfortably on $41,002,708 at the moment of this writing.

The stretch goal unlocked today is indeed a juicy one, as it’ll allow Cloud Imperium games to include entire procedurally generated planets for us to explore (even if it won’t be at launch), adding a whole new layer of gameplay to the title.

Procedural Generation R&D Team – This stretch goal will allocate funding for Cloud Imperium to develop procedural generation technology for future iterations of Star Citizen. Advanced procedural generation will be necessary for creating entire planets worth of exploration and development content. A special strike team of procedural generation-oriented developers will be assembled to make this technology a reality.

It’s hard not to be impressed by Star Citizen‘s seemingly unstoppable crowdfunding cavalcade, especially if you think that many doubted it would even reach its initial $5 million goal, that at the time seemed incredible. Call me biased, but I have to say I’m quite proud of having been there from day one.
