Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Hateful Eight’ Getting Live Reading

Film Independent will hold a live reading of Quentin Tarantino’s shelved Western scirpt “The Hateful Eight” on April 24.

The event will be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Bing Theater.

Tarantino decided earlier this year to shut down production after the script leaked without his approval. The event will not be recorded or live streamed.

“Quentin Tarantino is a key figure in the independent creative community,” said Josh Welsh, president of Film Independent. “We are thrilled that Quentin will be holding the World Premiere Staged Reading of his script of ‘The Hateful Eight’ with Film Independent at LACMA.”

The story takes place after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

Tarantino has sued Gawker, claiming copyright infringement, over Gawker posting a story on its Defamer site titled “Here Is the Leaked Quentin Tarantino Hateful Eight Script”with a link to a third party website hosting the 146-page script.

U.S. District Judge John Walter has scheduled a hearing in the case for April 14. The jurist has also set a Jan. 27, 2015 trial date.
