Film guild members can feast on the movie for free when it returns to theaters nationwide

Jon Favreau's food-truck comedy Chef will return to theaters nationwide over the Labor Day holiday in the hopes of cooking up interest among awards voters and general consumers.

The indie hit from Open Road Films, has earned nearly $30 million at the U.S. box office since its debut May 9 in select theaters. At its widest point, the movie was playing in 1,298 locations. Now, it is only screening in roughly 122 locations.

That changes on Aug. 29, when Chef will be on the marquee of 600 to 800 theaters across the country.

In a major awards push, members of the film industry guilds and organizations will be able to see Cheffor free.

Favreau, who directed and wrote Chef, also stars opposite Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson,John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman and Oliver Platt.
