on windows, foobar is the best i've used. it's lightweight and immensely customizable and has an active community which releases lots of plugins. it works out of the box, but if you are not afraid of digging in and tweaking stuff to set it up like you want, it's a very powerful music player to use.

on linux, i haven't come across anything that matched foobar.

I tend to go with foobar2000 because it displays the bitrate of the song playing, but VLC and WinAmp are both fine.

Ever since I fired up my spotify subscription, I haven't looked back.

I'll use Itunes when I need to, but I don't usually need to.

Itunes may not be open source and has a lot of restrictions, but i think that its still the best organized player out there. Nice design as well.
