New Races Revealed for World of Warcraft's Expansion?

WoW.com reports that insiders have leaked the two new races for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.

For just under a month now, rumors and speculation have pointed to Worgen and Goblins being the new playable races in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm -- the presumed title of Blizzard's next MMO expansion. This all arose when Blizzard added a set of Goblin and Worgen Halloween masks -- typically reserved for playable races -- to the game's files back in July, only to seemingly cover their tracks with additional non-playable masks. Now the staff of WoW.com claim to have confirmed as much from "multiple sources close to the situation".

According to their informants, the new expansion will see the Alliance picking up the werewolf-like Worgen, while the normally freelance Goblins will be aligning themselves with the Horde. That's the extent of what WoW.com's sources divulged -- brief, but supposedly concrete.

The addition of playable Worgen and Goblins would certainly fit in with the other theories surrounding World of Warcraft's next expansion. Many lore junkies are convinced that the walled-off, human nation of Gilneas may have fallen victim to a Worgen epidemic during its ten years of isolation. Goblins, on the other hand, make their home on the island of Kezan, which is situated just south of the Maelstrom -- a great storm at the center of Azeroth whose creation is sometimes referred to as the Cataclysm.

While it all sounds totally plausible, there's still an off chance that this could all be one giant red herring. Odds are we'll know for sure by the time Blizzcon rolls around in a little less than two weeks.

Now I myself don't play WoW but I thought I would post it if there are any fans, discuss!
