Gameplay > Graphics

Gameplay is much more important in making a game fun.

But... there's a difference between simple and bad graphics. If a game is well made even if graphics were not a priority it can still look good even if it's in a really simple way. Someone mentioned Limbo, which is an example of really simple graphics that do the job and look pretty good even though there's nothing fancy about it. Or an old game can look fine if the graphics were made to look as good as they could with the technology at the time.
