Airline boss: ‘I feel miserable by the immature behaviour of my daughters’

THE chief executive of Korean Air Lines has finally fired his two daughters from the company and apologised for their famously bratty behaviour.

One of the daughters, Heather Cho, made global headlines in 2014 over the infamous “nut rage” scandal, in which she demanded a Korean Air plane return to its gate at New York’s JFK Airport to remove a flight attendant who had served her macadamia nuts in a bag instead of a porcelain bowl, the New York Post reported.

Last month, her younger sister Emily Cho faced an uproar after she reportedly insulted an advertising executive and threw water in his face.

“As chairman of Korean Air and as the head of my family, I feel miserable by the immature behaviour of my daughters,” Cho Yang-ho said in a statement on Sunday.

“I apologise to all Koreans.”

The younger sister had also apologised, saying what she did was “foolish”, but labour unions demanded she step down and be punished, and she is now reportedly under investigation by police over the incident.

The latest fracas came after the older sister had recently returned as president of Korean Air’s hotel network despite resigning from her executive positions four years earlier and serving five months of a one-year jail sentence.

During the incident, Heather Cho, then aged 40, went berserk and screamed “loud and abusive language” from her first-class seat. Before he was kicked off the flight, the chief flight attendant said he was forced to kneel before Ms Cho, who oversaw in-flight services for the company, according to reports.

Chairman Cho said the company would “turn over a new leaf” with stronger management led by its board.

“Everything is my responsibility and fault,” he said in a statement.
