Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has revealed that Spider-Man: Far From Home will see Peter Parker and some of his closest friends go on a summer vacation in Europe.

Marvel recently revealed that the second Spider-Man solo movie to be set in the MCU will bear the title Spider-Man: Far From Home. The movie will begin filming in London this July, but it's confirmed to be a global adventure, and there have been reports the film will also shoot in a number of other European countries.

With filming about to begin, Marvel is beginning to open up about the sequel. In an interview with i09, Kevin Feige finally explained just why Tom Holland's Spider-Man isn't in New York in this film. In response to questions about the film's timing, Feige gave a humorous answer that let slip a juicy new detail:

"Well, when does that movie take place? We know it’s the summer. I think it’s summer vacation. I think he’s going to Europe with his friends. I don’t know what summer... I mean, I do know [but you don’t]."

So it seems Peter and some of his friends will go on a trip to Europe as part of their summer vacation. Amusingly, that means Holland gets to play tourist - when he's actually returning to his home country.

Feige is wrong when he says we don't know when Spider-Man: Far From Home is set. Last year, Amy Pascal revealed that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel would be set "minutes after" Avengers 4. Feige himself confirmed that the film would explore the post-Phase 3 MCU. As he explained at the time, "What better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker?" Marvel is currently trying to row back on that in light of the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War, which saw countless key heroes crumble to dust before viewers' horrified eyes. The most tragic and heartbreaking death of all was Spider-Man's, who vanished in Tony Stark's arms.

The Russo brothers have been trying to argue that future Marvel movies could actually be set before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and that those deaths will stick. That's plainly not the case, and anyone who reads the comics will be well aware that deaths like this are either undone or averted. That, presumably, is the plot of next year's Avengers 4. The surviving heroes will save half the life in the universe from Thanos's act of destruction, likely at great personal cost. Two months later, Tom Holland's Spider-Man will introduce viewers to the post-Phase 3 MCU.
