External Hard Drives

I download all my torrents to an external hard drive so my libraries are mobile and my computer isn't bogged down with little storage room. I am looking to upgrade to a one or two terabyte drive soon. I was wondering which brand is your favorite, or if you have a 1 or 2 tb drive how it preforms. I am looking for speed, reliability and portability. Thanks

Western Digital is probably the best one for the money, they are relatively cheaper than alot of brands. I have had my 1TB for years but they do have a 2TB as well. It has not failed me yet and I might even upgrade to the 2TB. Really like their stuff and its high quality.

I have a WD 500gb I use for Wii Games. I also have a WD 2tb drive I use to connect mostly to PS3 to load my digital back up movies. I have the 2tb partitioned in half, one side for the movies mentioned, the other side for file or image storage. Never had a problem with the brand.

I have three WD 2TB external drives - no problems at all and getting a fourth soon.

I have had 1tb & 2tb Seagates, 1.5tb hitachi - to be honest they all have performed well - if you want outright speed you need to look into the new hybrid drives or to speed up your system get an SSD for your OS & apps and use the 1/2 tb HD for downloads.

I can't stress enough the importance of backups when using LARGE capacity drives. If a 1 or 2tb drive fails on you, recovering it will cost you a bit and take AGEEEEEEEEEEEEES to resort all your stuff depending on the recovery method.

so when planning to buy large drives 500gb + always budget for buying 2 drives of the same capacity - one for LIVE use, the other for backup AND you also need to adhere to a backup regime...

I'm now looking at 3tb drives.... :)

Got WDC Mybook 500G and Seagate Desktop 1TB, unfortunately wdc didn't perform to good cause it would randomly unplug by itself, defect hardware I guess ...

for the seagate been using it until now and satisfied with it ...

i am using western digital 3TB...

i noticed that if NOD32 v5 antivirus is installed...... it will stalled the PC when the external HD is plug in.

Whats your price range, if you dont have one and your pc suports usb 3.0 i would go with that.. as far as brand i have gone with western digital all my life and i just cant seem to get one to die on me..they are indestructible :)

I have 2 wd 2 terra, one is connected via usb and the other is shared via ethernet. The  increase in speed on the ethernet connected one is well worth the additional 20 $ it costs.
