The release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider is drawing near, meaning more footage and information will be made public the closer we get to it. While Square Enix doesn’t give out any major story details to spoil our experience, we get plenty of short trailers and screenshots to show us how big the franchise has become. In a new trailer, we see Lara transverse into the Deadly Tombs and, dare we say, they look amazing.

The Deadly Tombs trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a short but sweet one. No action, no dialogues or monologues or anything, just pure breathtaking landscapes of tombs in the game. Maya culture buildings, ancient walls filled with green and huge traps, can all be filled into just forty seconds.

Dare we say, the most breathtaking moment of the trailer, is the scene near the end of it, showing Lara standing in front of an abandoned, rotten galleon, sitting in a cave. We can’t wait to see that one in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and see what more we can find out about it.

In a recent interview with us here at SegmentNext, the development team of Shadow of the Tomb Raider pointed out that they wanted their world to be as immersive as possible, using a unique, breathing world:

The main focus of the world building in Shadow of the Tomb Raider was immersion. We wanted to create a living breathing world for players to explore. Our goal was to bring archeology to life and to have Lara learn from a living culture through documents, relics, and murals but also through conversations with people and story-driven side missions. The fact-based fictional culture of Paititi was created by drawing from Maya, Inca, and Aztec sources for clothing, architecture, and language.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is releasing on September 18 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Recently it has been announced that the game has reached Gold status. Gold status means that the game has now been finished in development, though there are obviously still a few bugs left.
