Joaquin Phoenix's Joker Movie To Be Scored By Sicario 2 Composer

Warner Bros.' upcoming Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix will be scored by Hildur Gudnadottir, who previously worked on Sicario: Day of the Soldado. Another superhero period piece from DC, the film will be set in the '80s and will tackle the Clown Prince of Crime's early days as a failed comedian, this will finally establish the origin story of one of the most iconic villain - at least on the big screen. The Hangover director Todd Phillips is set to helm, drawing from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver.

Not much is known regarding plot specifics but previous reports claim that the movie will reveal the villain's real name: Arthur Fleck, and that he may actually have some deeper connection with Bruce Wayne than being just his arch-nemesis. Over the last several weeks, casting sheet is starting to be filled out for Joker. Among those who are already cast include Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron although no official word as to who they may be playing in the film. Now, another piece of detail emerges about the project with the reveal that Gudnadottir will provide the score for the flick.

In a recent report by Film Music Reporter, it's revealed that Gudnadottir will work on the score of the forthcoming superhero DC movie. A classically trained Icelandic cellist, the 35-year-old is known for providing the music for Stefano Sollima's Sicario: Day of the Soldado, released earlier this summer and starring Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro. She also wrote the score for the Danish film Kapringen (A Hijacking), as well as the Danish-America true-crime documentary Strong Island.
 

This will not be the first time that Gudnadottir will work on a film starring Phoenix. Prior to working on Day of the Soldado, she collaborated with the late Jóhann Jóhannsson (who coincidentally scored Denis Villeneuve's Sicario) in Mary Magdalene starring the actor alongside Rooney Mara. Phoenix played Jesus Christ in the biblical drama directed by Garth Davis, while Mara portrayed the titular character. Gudnadottir is currently busy scoring HBO/Sky mini series Chernobyl starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard & Emily Watson. No official release date has been announced for the TV show, but with its principal photography already starting last April, it's safe to say that Gudnadottir will still have a lot of time to focus on Joker after finishing up her work on the show.

Production for Joker is set to start sometime next month and considering that it will be a fairly grounded film compared to other comic book movies, there's a good chance that filming will be finished before the year ends and post-production will begin. And while it's unlikely that a teaser will be out any time soon given that Warner Bros. would want to focus the attention on Aquaman and Shazam!, fans can look forward to more details emerging with regard to the project in the next several months
