Fallout 76’s Power Armor Edition has officially sold out with no plans of any more being made in the future. Bethesda announced during E3 that fans could pre-order a Power Armor Edition, retailing at $200. The edition comes with numerous perks including a glow-in-the-dark world terrain map, 24 collectible Fallout figurines, and bonus in-game items. But the true prize is the full-scale wearable T-51 helmet complete with voice modulator and headlamp. Bethesda warned that the edition was limited. It would quickly become apparent just how limited the edition was, as it sold out before summer’s end.

The latest installment in the Fallout franchise will serve as a change of pace for longtime fans. For the first time, the series is getting an online multiplayer game where the only characters are other players. The change from single to multiplayer has provided the developer a slew of new issues to overcome, including attempting to preemptively curb nerfing. Bethesda then had to promise that the inclusion of nukes wouldn’t give any player or team advantages over the competition. Fallout 76 is a prequel, taking players closer than ever before to the Great War, the cataclysmic event that created the world gamers must now navigate.

When the Power Armor Edition sold out on Bethesda’s website, fans reached out to the company, voicing concerns. Pete Hines, VP and head of marketing for Bethesda, responded on Twitter, stating that the studio has been making as many as they could and that there is no way to create more. Hines went on to explain in another tweet that the edition was difficult to make and that the company was working hard to ensure everything will be ready for launch. He concluded by apologizing to anyone unable to pre-order in time.

Fans expressed their worries about the Power Armor Edition likely being bought out in part by scalpers. Said scalpers would them resell the editions on the grey market at a higher cost. Hines gave no response to that concern directly. But if that is indeed the case, there is little that Bethesda would be able to do to stop them.

Fallout 76 promises to be one of the biggest games of the year. Players who pre-order, Power Armor Edition or otherwise, will get a chance to join the B.E.T.A. this October and tackle Fallout’s first MMORPG. For fans eager to get their hands on some exclusive merch, it is disappointing that the Power Armor Edition turned out to be so limited. Hopefully, when the game launches, most of the special editions will go directly into the possession of devoted fans.
