Hunt for cruel dog owner who dumped ten newborn puppies

A LITTER of 10 tiny newborn pups has been found cruelly dumped in a plastic box on the side of a country road.

Some of the puppies still didn't have their eyes open as animal welfare officers launched an appeal to hunt down the owner with fears about the health of the mum dog.

The 10 Staffordshire bull terrier pups, believed to be 10-days old, were found in a plastic box in Titchfield Lane, near Wickham, Hampshire on Saturday night.

They were rushed to a vet for immediate treatment where they were then having to be hand-fed.

RSPCA inspectors are worried about the health of the mum of the pups who could now be suffering from mastitis having delivered so many.

Charlotte Coggins, who is investigating for the animal welfare charity, said: "It's estimated the puppies are around 10 days old. They are tiny, they don't yet have their eyes open and need help feeding.

"Thankfully they are now getting the care they need and we hope they will all make a good recovery.

"We are very worried about the welfare of the mother dog as she will no doubt be really missing her pups, and could be suffering from mastitis after recently having so many puppies.

"I assume as they'd been left in the layby by the person responsible in the hope they would be found and helped.

"However, leaving such young puppies exposed like this without the mum they so desperately need risked their lives.
