Wargaming, the developers of World of Warplanes, World of Tanks, and World of Warships, is opening a new studio in the UK. According to a press release issued earlier today, the new Guildford-based studio will be working on a new IP.

At the time of writing, that new IP has not been announced, but Wargaming’s press release says that the studio “will be working on an unannounced free-to-play multiplatform MMO title built in the Unreal Engine.” The studio will be headed by Sean Decker, who has previously worked at EA, DICE, and Eve Online developers CCP.

As well as the ongoing development around their team-based vehicle games, Wargaming is currently working on another project. At Gamescom earlier this year, the company’s CEO, Victor Kislyi, told us that it’s a free-to-play, slow-paced FPS, featuring both PvE and PvP elements, various classes, and authentic weaponry. However, it’s not all that likely that this is what the new studio will be working on. The new game has a name – Calibre – while the studio will be working on something yet to be announced.

The safe assumption, then, is that the new IP will be another ‘World of’ title, but I couldn’t tell you what it’ll focus on, given that the studio has already covered a significant number of the currently-existing modes of vehicular warfare.

To celebrate the new studio, World of Warships is getting a brand-new suite of content focused on the United Kingdom. There’ll be a new Royal Navy event arc, as well as a new branch of British Destroyers. Operation Dynamo, the game’s PvE scenario, is also back, after a lengthy rebalancing process.

Elsewhere, World of Warships is heading both deep below the sea – submarines and sea monsters will appear in the game for its Halloween event, due to begin in the coming weeks.
