'The Breakfast Club' host wants the rapper's followers to be more empathetic

Charlamagne Tha God has criticised fans of Kanye West, calling them “hypocrites” for turning on the rapper.

Asked what he thought of the speculation around West’s mental health, Charlamagne replied: “I think we’re all wack and we’re all hypocrites. I think we all contradict ourselves because we see a guy sitting there, screaming that he may have mental health issues but everyone wants to cancel him.”

He continued to say people watching West online weren’t being “empathetic to the fact that he really may be going through some things.” “I can’t take anything he says serious because he’s clearly telling us something is wrong,” he said. “Why are we putting so much stock in anything that comes out of his mouth when he’s telling us something is wrong?”

The radio host and the rapper were due to take part in a live discussion about mental health issues in New York earlier this month. However, Charlamagne cancelled the event after West’s most recent visit to the White House.

Speaking to Stephen Colbert last week (October 23), the radio DJ said: “What I’m trying to do, which is elevate the conversation about mental health in the black community and trying to eradicate the stigma around mental health, I just didn’t think it would be a good conversation. It’d be a distraction.”

Meanwhile, this weekend (October 27), a range of shirts designed by West encouraging a “blexit” – or “black exit” – from the Democratic Party were unveiled at an event hosted by right-wing commentator Candace Owens.
