RIP Arcadia Spider

Glastonbury’s famous Arcadia spider will not appear at the next festival, it’s been revealed.

An as yet unbuilt “totally different adventure” will instead debut at the festival, which returns in June 2019 following a fallow year.

The giant fire breathing metallic monster has been a mainstay of the festival, with DJs performing underneath it and thousands of people gathering to watch the spectacle.

Speaking to Somerset Live, the founders of Arcadia Spectacular said: “We’re beginning a totally different adventure at Glastonbury that will evolve over the coming years.

“We’re currently neck deep in scrapyards and as excited as everyone else about what we might find next.”

Festival organiser Emily Eavis told NME earlier this year that plans for the next instalment of Glastonbury are “quite radical”.

Elsewhere in the interview, Eavis also teased some “site changes” for 2019, saying: “We’re spreading out Block 9 a bit, giving them more space as they’ve got some pretty mind boggling ideas that we’re putting into action.”

Yesterday (November 16), Glastonbury confirmed Stormzy as the 2019 festival’s Friday night headliner.
