3. That is what I have been waiting for and the fact that just I don't want to put Windows 7 over my Vista because it is a pain in the ass. I was think about just reformatting my computer and doing a fresh install of Windows 7 as my base OS which would be a lot better but I got a lot on my computer. I hear a lot of good things about Windows 7 such as it is a lot faster, runs smooth etc..

9. Create the Glass Shelf Dock from Leopard OS in Photoshop In the new MAC OS X Leopard operating system, the application bar has a new, sleek look. This tutorial will show you how to create the Glass Shelf Dock used for the operating system. What We Will Be Creating or those of you not aware of what the Leopard operating system looks like, you can see it here. The image below will give you an idea of what we will be creating. Wallpaper The background wallpaper we are going to be using is shown below. A larger version can be found here. Setting the Guides Now that we have all the materials we need to get started, and we have an idea of what the Glass Shelf Dock looks like, lets begin to create our own inside of Photoshop. Begin by Creating a New Document (I used a 1280?800px document) and placing the wallpaper into the Background Layer. Make sure your rulers are enabled. If they aren’t, navigate to View > Rulers(Ctrl+R). Also make sure your guides are enabled at View > Show > Guides(Ctrl+;). Now lets drag guides out from the vertical ruler to 140px and 1140px. Then drag a guide from the horizontal ruler to 760px. Creating the Shelf Grab your Rectangular Marquee Selection Tool(M) and select the 1000?60px area in between your guides. Then set your colors as such: Foreground color #777777 http://www.tutorial9.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/555555.gif Background color #555555 Create a new layer. Then grab your Linear Gradient Tool and select the “Foreground to Background” preset gradient. While holding shift, drag your cursor from the top of the selection to the bottom. Create two more vertical guides at 170px and 1110px. Now lets go to Edit > Transform > Perspective and while holding shift, drag the top left corner to your 170px guide. Perspective Tip Holding shift will transform both sides of your object at the same time, so that they stay symmetrical. Adding Effect to the Shelf Change the opacity of your Shelf Layer to 90% or 80%. Ctrl+Click on the thumbnail for the Shelf Layer to make a selection of it. Create a new layer. Then, grab your Pencil Tool and create a 2px line with the color #cccccc across the bottom of the selection and set the opacity of the layer to 85%. Then, above that, create a 1px line on a new layer with the color #000000 and set the opacity to 25%. Hiding the Guides We don’t need the guides that we created anymore, so you can either drag them off the screen or hide them by going to View > Show > Guides Once again, Ctrl+Click on the thumbnail for the Shelf Layer to make a selection of it. Then, create a Foreground to Transparent Gradient about 30px wide on the left and right side of the selection on a new layer. Change the opacity to 10%. Creating the Glossy Effect To add more effect to the shelf, lets add a curved gloss to it. Create a new layer and grab your Pen Tool(P). Make sure that your pen is set to paths. Create a path similar to the highlighted area below. Then, right click while you still have your pen tool selected and click make selection. Make sure feather radius is set to 0px. Grab the Foreground to Transparent Gradient Tool and set your foreground color to #FFFFFF. Then, hold shift and drag the gradient from the bottom of the selection to the top of the selection. You should now have something like below. Adding Icons Bring in the first icon that you want to add and place it about halfway up the height of the shelf. Duplicate(Layer > Duplicate Layer…) it and flip it vertically(Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical). Drag it down until the top of the flipped version is touching the bottom of the normal version. Then, change the opacity to 25%. Adding Shadow Some people would stop here thinking that the effect is done. However, not only does the actual operating system have shadows for the icons, I would add them even if it didn’t. They help to create more depth and a greater effect. To add the shadow, duplicate(Layer > Duplicate Layer…) your icon layer and drag the new layer under the original. Fill your layer with black Edit > Fill… Use: Black(Shift+F5). Then change the size of your icon using Edit > Free Transform(Ctrl+T). Drag the top middle box until the top of your icon matches the top of the shelf. Once you have this accomplished, we need to blur the shadow. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 1.5px. Then change the opacity to 25%. Repeat this process with more icons Creating the Fading Rectangles To create the fading rectangles, follow the same steps we used to create the shelf. Make a white rectangle and transform it using perspective. Delete sections of the rectangle, making them get smaller as they get farther away. Then lower the opacity to 25%. Creating the Orb Create an oval 10?4px using the Elliptical Marquee Tool. Then apply the following Layer Styles(Layer > Layer Styles). The Final Result We now have all of the objects and effects that we need to complete our design. Lets take a look at the final result. PLEASE SHOW YOUR WORK HERE!!
10. Design an Awesome Product Ad One of a companies main goals is to convince consumers that they’re getting their money’s worth with any particular product. Sometimes, a good advertisement design will go a long ways in the industry. This tutorial will teach you a few techniques to improve your designs in general. For this tutorial I will be using Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Illustrator CS3. You shouldn’t have any problems following along if you’re using other recent versions of the Adobe Creative Suite. For those that work in the design industry, we are all to familiar with having to establish an advertising campaign for products. No matter the product, it’s up to you to convince the potential buyer that this product is worth their money. Successful advertising can make or break a product. Apple is a great example of this: They generate a lot of product hype and develop gorgeous ads for their products well before they come out. As a result, Apple can convince consumers to pay ridiculous amounts of money for their products. In this tutorial, I’ll show you a few techniques that may improve your design abilities when creating advertisements. One of the best ways to hone your skills is to practice making Ads for products that you’ve never seen advertised before (or simply don’t exist at all). More than likely wont be swayed into copying their style. For this tutorial I’ll demonstrate with the LG KE800 Chocolate Platinum. Extracting the Phone We will be extracting the product alone from its background using a vector mask. This extraction technique works great for most objects since it produces crisp edges. Select the pen tool by pressing “P” or by clicking the Pen Tool icon in the toolbox. Make sure you have it set to “Paths” mode before you start. This option is located in the Options Panel at the top of the screen (this will create a vector path, but with no fills or strokes applied to it). Now add anchors along the outline of the object. If you’re new to using this tool, Once you have the phone outlined it should look like this: Now go to Layer > Vector Mask > Current Path. This will create a vector Mask utilizing the path we just created. So now we have the phone cutout. Setting Up a Spread Now that we have the phone we will set up our document. We are going to assume that this is for Web use and will create a document with the following size: Go ahead and drop the image into your new canvas and scale it up to be a bit larger (Edit > Transform > Scale). When making an Ad for a product you usually want the product to be the most striking part of the image. If you try to scale the object and the phone does not change in size, but rather its mask does, you need to deselect the mask and make sure you are selecting the actual phone graphic. (Refer to images below.) Making a Background Double click the background layer and hit OK to unlock it. Now double click the layer again to open the Layer Blending Options Panel. We want to add a Gradient that subtly fades from black to dark red. Using the eyedropper tool, you can get select colors from your graphic. This helps keep everything in the same tonal range. After finding a red from the buttons I darkened it a bit more. Making a Repeating Circle In this step, we are going to use the shape blend tool in Adobe Illustrator to make some interesting shapes in the background. Lets hop over into Adobe Illustrator to make some vector graphics. Create two circles, one smaller than the other. Also color the inner one black and the outer one a maroon color. Make sure they are centered. Next press “W” for the blend tool, or hit the button on the toolbox. Click the circles paths starting with the inner one. You should get a series of circles blending both shape and color. If you double click the Shape Blend tool in the tool box you will get a dialog box. Change the spacing to specified steps, and the number between 8-12 Adding Flourishes hats right. As trend whore as they may be, they can allow for amazing artistic originality. I would stray away from using nothing but brushes made by other people, but it’s always Ok to collaborate with their consent. In this tutorial we will be making our own. Select the Brush tool and change the Brush tip shape to a small soft brush. Open the brush settings and change them to the following: Now select the Pen Tool and draw a swoosh shapes around the phone, like below. Make sure you add a new layer to work on before doing the next step. Right click the path with the Pen tool still selected and select Stroke Path. Make sure simulate brush pressure is turned on and click OK. Double click the layer that you applied the stroke on to get to its Blending options. Add a gradient like this: Next add a glow like this: Play around with some different strokes and get some interesting flow of lines. Guide the viewer’s eye around the product. This is what I came up with: Making a Custom Brush Next we are going to make a custom brush to treat the graphic further. I will be using a flower because I want to play off of the sensual nature of this phone. Think of your audience, if you personify the ad make sure it is to your benefit. Find a good stock image of a flower and open it in Photoshop. Go ahead and extract the flower using the technique shown in the beginning of this tutorial. You should end up with something like this: Crop it in nice and tight and select Edit > Define Brush Preset. Now you have the flower saved as a brush, which will speed things up when we are illustrating. So go and add some cool effects with the brush tool. This is what I came up with: (I used the symbol sprayer in Illustrator. You may need to play with brush colors if working in Photoshop.) To finalize the image lets throw some text on it and play with the lighting a bit. By using the Dodge and Burn tools you can add shadows and highlight to the various layers and further control the viewer’s attention. Results This is my final result. Now Show Your Work Here
11. That looks really cool, keep the wicked tutorials coming ;)
12. Very nice tutorial, I was trying to do it before I left but Photoshop crashed in the middle of it. I will try it when I get back!
13. Hey, nice tutorial. i'll try when i get some time.
14. Design Vector Based Badges Creating your own badges has never been easier. These badges are vector based, which means that you can scale them to whatever size you need without loosing any quality, and maintain a very crisp graphic with clear edges. Step 1 Start by creating a new document in Photoshop, 500?500, White Background. Grab the Pen Tool (P) and choose the Ellipse Tool. Select a good color that will show both shadows and highlights, I picked red. Now start creating an ellipse while holding down Shift, this will make the shape circular. This will be the base for the badge, but don’t worry about the size of the circle, since it’s vector based you will be able to scale it later on if you need to. Step 2 This step will be all about applying effects to the Layer Style. To access the layer styles window, either double click on the layer in the Layer Palette or Go to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options… Drop Shadow: Inner Shadow: Outer Glow: Inner Glow: Gradient Overlay: Okay, now we’ve styled the base layer. Given it the rounded feel, added shadows and a little highlight in the middle. You should end up with something like this: Step 3 This step will help you create two subtle highlights, one on the top and one on the bottom. Duplicate the previous layer, the one with the circle in it; Layer > Duplicate Layer… You want to resize this new layer to 90% the size of it’s current size (Edit > Transform > Resize) Once again it’s a Layer Style only step: Uncheck all the styles except for Gradient Overlay, which should get the following settings: Gradient Overlay: Click on the Gradient to bring up a new window. Here you will need to slide the top right arrow towards the middle, this will narrow down the gradient. On the left I used White (#FFFFFF) at 100% Opacity Change the Fill to 0% (located just below the Layer Opacity in the Layer Palette). This will make the color of the shape disappear but leaving the layer styles untouched. You might want to lower the Opacity as well, I have mine at 30% for this layer. This should give your badge a look like this: Step 4 Now we are going to create the main highlight. Select the Pen Tool again and use the Ellipse Tool to make an actual ellipse this time. Now we’re going to position this shape where we want the light to come from. Select the Move Tool (V) and check the Show Transform Controls checkbox in the top bar menu. While holding down Shift rotate the layer (place your pointer around the corners of the layer and start dragging). Rotate it to a 45-degree angle and place it where you want the highlight. As you can see there’s a bit of space between the old highlight and the ellipse. To fill this space simply select the Pen Tool (P), and while holding down Ctrl, click inside the ellipse. This will show you the four points of the shape and what you want to do is to drag the one shown in the next image: Now we’re going to change this black shape into a highlight with the help of, you guessed it, Layer Style. Only Gradient Overlay this time as well: You might need to drag the gradient around on the image until you get that perfect fit. Change the Fill to 0% and the Opacity to around 60% for this layer. Step 5 The badge is more or less finished now, just select your base layer and change the Fill to 0%. To show you what your badge should look like at this stage I’ve changed my background to blue, since the highlights won’t show on a white background: Step 6 The only thing that is left now is the actual content on the badge. If you have a picture you would like to use for your badge simply drag it into your image and place it below the base layer. After lining it up so that it fills the circle just like you want it, you simply Ctrl-click the vector mask of the base layer. This will give you a selecting of the circle (badge) and all you have to do now is, while you’re in your picture layer, click on the Add Layer Mask icon. This will hide everything outside the badge. Remember that the badge itself is vector based so you can resize it all you want, but the content you have inside the badge might not be vector so resize the badge before you add content. Good Luck ! show your work here
15. Abstract Dust And Spray Effect n this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to create colorful abstract spray effect for use in your graphics. This has become quite a trendy technique recently, and can be accomplished fairly easily. Where to use this effect This is a great post-effect for your compositions, so you’ll probably want to use it towards the completion of your works. For this demonstration, I’ve prepared a Photoshop Document (1.35 Mb) that you may choose to use to practice this technique on. This effect generally looks best when it takes on the appearance of emerging from behind an object. We are going to have the spray come out from behind the cloud in our example. If you’re following along in the Photoshop Document provided above, you’ll want to work in new layers under the “Cloud” layer, but above the background. Setting up the Brush he spray effect does not require you to go out and download any new Brushes, but we will need to adjust some of the brush options to get the right effect. You’ll want to be using a nice soft brush (the standard brush set to 0% hardness, and a large size works well), and you’re going to want to set the Brush mode to Dissolve (The Brush mode is located in the options bar. This is not the blending mode in the layers panel.) Also, set your brush’s Opacity to something around 50% (The Lower the opacity, the less dust/spray you’ll get). Playing with Color When using this effect, it is important to select colors that are bright, and vibrant with color. Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule, and you’ll ultimately have to pick colors that work with the rest of your composition, but as rule of thumb, colors that work best include white, yellow, magenta, purple, cyan, pink, etc. Generally anything with a high luminance level will work well. There are cases when dark colors can work, but I’ll leave that up to you for experimenting. For starters, lets select a Foreground Color of White, and get to the brushing! The Technique in Action Starting in a layer underneath your object of choice (In our case, the cloud layer), start brushing with single clicks around the edges of the foreground object. At this point, the specks don’t seem much like spray at all, but more like extraneous pixels floating about. To fix this, we are going to resize this layer. Go to Edit > Transform > Scale, or Ctrl + T, and then make the layer smaller by dragging the corner selection nodes inward (hold shift to keep constrained proportions). Resizing to 80% of the original layer size should be sufficient I find that this effect looks nicer when the spray seems to fade out rather than just disappear along a rounded edge. To do this, grab your Eraser tool from the toolbar, and set up a nice large soft brush (0% hardness, 100-300px). Erase some of the dust so that it seems to have varying volume in different parts of the layer, and also try to have it fade out the spray as it gets close to the edge. Blending the Spray ometimes, changing the blending mode of a spray layer will greatly alter the effect of the spray. Blending modes like Overlay, Linear Dodge, Color Dodge, and Screen seem to work best in most cases. Furthermore, by Duplicating and Erasing Parts of each of the duplicated layers can also make for some excellent effects. New Layer > Repeat You know everything you need to know now to create some great spray effects! All you need to do now is repeat the steps shown above several times with new layers (With different color sprays of course), and blend all of the different spray layers together until you get the desired result. Additional Tips To make some dust particles appear more sharp than others, brush over some spray with the Sharpening tool. Add in some Large Specks every now and then with a small brush (not set to Dissolve). Don’t spray TOO MUCH! Just enough in some areas to make the effect noticeable. Too much and the whole effect might be lost. Now What? You’ve reached the end of this post. Now show your work please!
16. Yes you have the Razer Copperhead, very nice.
17. POST YOUR COMPUTER SPECS Hey guys, I just wanted to see what everyone's computer specs were. Right now I am running a pretty crappy computer but am hoping to custom build one by Christmas or at Christmas. You can use the guidelines I provide or do it by yourself. Manufacturer: Processor: Memory: Hard Drive: Video Card: Monitor: Sound Card: Speakers/Headphones: Keyboard: Mouse: Mouse Surface: Operating System: Motherboard: Computer Case:[/code]
