  1. Wirecard has suspended an accounting employee in Singapore until an investigation into allegations of fraud and creative accounting is over, the company's chief executive told Reuters on Tuesday.
  2. Uber Technologies Inc has agreed to pay $20 million to settle a lawsuit brought by drivers nearly six years ago, according to court filings, resolving one of its many legal battles with drivers ahead of a hotly anticipated initial public offering this year.
  3. Taiwan's Foxconn on Tuesday responded to a patent infringement lawsuit filed against it by Microsoft Corp, saying as a contract manufacturer, it has never needed to pay royalties for the U.S. company's software.
  4. A global effort to revamp international tax rules for the digital era is receiving less corporate push-back than past attempts, the OECD's head of tax policy said on Tuesday.
  5. The top U.S. securities regulator received permission from a federal judge on Tuesday to respond to Tesla Inc Chief Executive Elon Musk's arguments that his Twitter post about the electric vehicle maker’s production volume did not violate his recent fraud settlement.
  6. Microsoft is bringing its classic Halo game collection to PC, and adding Halo: Reach to the entire Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The games will be available on both the Microsoft Store and Valve’s Steam store, allowing PC gamers to grab them from their preferred store of choice. The Master Chief Collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), Halo 4, and now Halo: Reach. Halo fans have been calling on Microsoft to bring the series to PC, and the company is now taking its time to get the release right. That includes field of view sliders and great mouse and keyboard controls. This does mean the collection won’t be available immediately, and will appear in stages. Halo: Reach will appear first, followed by the rest in chronological order: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4. Each game can be individually purchased as they become available. Halo: Reach will launch as part of the collection later this year, and will include the Forge and Theater multiplayer content if you already own Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The Campaign and Firefight features will be offered as a separate digital add-on. Microsoft is also promising 60 fps gameplay and 4K / HDR support for Halo: Reach on Xbox One X.
  7. Amazon has officially acquired Eero, the three-year old mesh WiFi startup based in San Francisco. Like other mesh WiFi systems, Eero's routers can be placed throughout the home, allowing users to avoid the "dead zones" that can occur when relying on a single router. Eero stressed in a blog post announcing the deal that its policy of not tracking customer's internet activity would not change with the acquisition. It did note that customers without the Eero Plus subscription service, which can encrypt your traffic, will continue to have their information routed to Eero's security partner, Zscaler. But the company did make it clear that "we do not have the capability, and never have, to collect any browsing data from Eero networks." The acquisition means that Amazon has further expanded its growing network of smart home devices. Amazon's vast umbrella of Alexa-connected products now includes speakers, alarm clocks, devices just for kids, and a style assistant. Other Amazon products that rely on WiFi include Ring, the home security system of WiFi-enabled video doorbells, as well as Fire TV and the Amazon streaming services. In buying Eero, Amazon has cornered every level of the smart home system, selling consumers both the smart home devices and the routers that connect them. To entice new customers,, Amazon and Eero are offering $100 off on any of its second-generation devices, but only for today.
  8. Samsung’s brand-new Galaxy S10 arrived Friday, and I have little doubt that many day-one buyers spent all weekend fiddling with a smartphone that “comes the closest to making all those dollars worth it,” as our colleagues at Gizmodo describe. One setting that might have eluded you—a bunch of settings, in fact—is the Galaxy S10's Developer Options. Most people probably don’t need to mess with these, as there’s a lot in there they won’t understand (nor need to adjust). However, if you’re looking to spoof your device’s GPS, keep your device’s screen awake at all times (even when charging), or speed up your device’s animations, you’ll need to unlock the magic of Developer Options. Thankfully, it’s super easy to do. First, open your Settings app on your Galaxy S10. Scroll down to the very bottom of the app until you see the “About phone” section, and tap on that. Within “About phone,” look for the “Software information” section and tap that. You’ll now want to scroll down until you see “Build number,” which should be about halfway down in your “Software information” screen. Can’t miss it. Strange as this might sound, you’ll now want to tap “Build number” seven times. Basically, keep tapping until you’re prompted to enter your device’s PIN, password, or gesture—whatever you’d use to unlock it instead of a fingerprint or your face. Head back to your primary “Settings” screen, and you’ll now see a new “Developer Options” listing below “About phone.” Tap it, and resist the urge to complete break your device by fiddling with settings that most people will never see. I kid! You’ll be fine.
  9. As the end of Windows 7's free extended support period nears, Microsoft is going to do more to tell Windows 7 users that their operating system will soon cease receiving security updates. Starting next month, the operating system will show users a "courtesy reminder" to tell them that security updates will cease and that Windows 10 (and hardware to run it on) exists. Microsoft promises that the message will only appear a "handful of times" during 2019 and that there will be a "do not notify me again" checkbox that will definitely suppress any future messages. For those organizations that intended to keep using Windows 7 beyond its January 14, 2020 cut-off date, Microsoft has up to three years of paid fixes through its new Extended Security Update (ESU) scheme. These will be available to any organization with a volume license and will have a ratcheting cost structure that doubles the price each year. And as a sweetener for its new Virtual Desktop service, Azure-hosted Windows 7 virtual machines used for virtual desktop infrastructure deployments will have access to all three years of ESU patches for no additional cost
  10. Google has posted another teaser for its event at the Game Developers Conference next week, inviting people to gather around as the company unveils its “vision for the future of gaming.” The company first announced the event last month, but the latest teaser puts it front and center on Google’s main Twitter account, along with a slick video of a bunch of hallways set in various sci-fi, fantasy, and racing-themed areas that certainly fit the gaming theme. While the teaser doesn’t tell us much about what Google’s vision of the gaming future is, rumors indicate that the company may be launching its own game-streaming service that builds off the work Google has already done with its Project Stream tests. Google is rumored to be formally announcing the public-facing service that will use that tech, possibly even with some hardware to go along with it, as a patent for a controller surfaced last week. Additionally, Google’s SVP of Hardware Rick Osterloh has tweeted about the event, which would seem to indicate that the company will be launching some kind of gaming hardware at GDC. And if that wasn’t enough, Google has already posted a placeholder page for the announcement on the Google Store, which seems to practically confirm that there will be some sort of physical device that it’ll be announcing next week. Taken together, it’s all shaping up to be one of the biggest announcements Google has ever made at the conference, along with what might be the internet juggernaut’s biggest push into the gaming sphere yet. Either that, or Google has the most exciting hallway simulator ever made to show off. Fortunately, we won’t have long to wait: Google’s GDC keynote will take place on March 19th at 10AM PT / 1PM ET.
