Graham Coughlan has confirmed Rollin Menayese is set to leave Bristol Rovers on loan.

The 21-year-old defender has made just one appearance for the Gas this season, in a 2-0 Checkatrade Trophy loss to Exeter City, and is keen for more game time after a successful loan spell at Swindon Town last year.

Coughlan confirmed Rovers will look to bring some cover in before allowing Menayese to depart.

He said: "We're going to lose young Rollin Menayese, he wants some game time so is going to go out on loan, and I'll replace him just for cover. Someone will come in and cover that.

"Other than that we're still shopping, still looking and still hopeful."

Coughlan added: "We'll be working on that and hopefully we can finalise something within the next 24, 36 hours that will enable Rollin to go.

"I think Rollin deserves and needs first-team football, to be fair.

"He went out to Swindon last year, I saw him play against Chesterfield, and he's done ever so well but he's maybe just gone a little bit stale at this moment in time.

"So for the good of Rollin and Luke Russe, they're two lads who we feel need first-team football.

"I don't want to leave myself bare so I'll get a little bit of cover organised.

"This is all long-term planning not short-term planning."

The Gas continue to endure a frustrating transfer window, having missed out on more targets, but Coughlan knows that is part of football.

He said: "That's life, it's not for the lack of trying or a lack of activity. It's not for lack of identifying the players we'd like, we've got our list and gone through them.

"We just seem to be getting knock backs, as I keep saying, bumps in the road, part and parcel of football.

"We're active, we're trying, we're talking, I've had meetings with players - I've gone up and down the country to meet players myself but it just hasn't fallen for us yet."

With the Gas in the relegation zone, Coughlan says he is realistic about their position in the transfer market, but will not add for the sake of stockpiling players.

He said: "I'll either add or I won't add, so there's no point in me being concerned.

"I'm trying to get players in but if I don't I'll just have to go with what I've got. These lads over the last eight, nine, 10 games have worked their socks off.

"Aside from the Wycombe game, every other game has been pleasing, I've got maximum effort and maximum mileage out of them.

"Let's be honest, we all want that 20-goal man, we all want the team that's keeping 20 clean sheets, we all want the open, free, expansive football that we all crave for.

"I'd be Walter Mitty sitting here talking about things like that, those things are unrealistic at this moment in time but they're the things that we want to bring and want to do and want to achieve at this football club.

"As I keep saying, and I'll be consistent with it, I ain't going to stockpile and bring a load of players in just to fill spaces, I want to bring the right players in.

"If the right players are unavailable or being tracked by other clubs and decide to go elsewhere, then I can't do anything about that.

"As I say, I want the right players for this football club."
