Well, i've been hearing about the world ending in 21st December 2012. The mayans calender ended on that date and everything that the mayans wrote became true. The mayna were a smart race..Info about there caleneder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar

I'm just wondering if anyone here believes its going to happen. I personally think its a WHOLE bunch of *CENSORED*. But i want to hear other peoples opinions. :D

If the world does end, i will be running around my neighbourhood butt naked. :P

Of course not.

Not only has the Mayan calendar ended before, but look at Y2K. Nothing happened there either.

I mean, MY calendar ends December 31st, but that doesn't mean the world is going to end.

There's no evidence that they were the smartest race ever. Remember Y2K? This is the exact same thing. Nostradamus made like, six predictions as to when the world was going to end, and none of them came true.

Also, the Mayan calendar is ending. That's it. The Mayans never made any predictions that the world would end.

Think about it, the Mayans had to end the calender at someday. They probably got too lazy to extend it past 2012. Why did they choose a strange number like 2012, and not a nice round one like 3000? Who knows. That's up for debate. :P

Also look at the date. 21st of the 12th Month in 2012. The number 1's and 2's make it seem freaky :S

Yeah. But then again, many people think that the scientists are the ones who are going to end the world via Hadron Collider etc. :P

Most end-of-the-world panics are caused by the over-sensationalized media though, and have almost no basis in truth. Think Y2K and the like. It's almost like they can't wait to make up this next new thing that's going to kill us all haha. xD

This is what I believe: Some Mayan guy was sitting there making the calendar, got up to December 21, 2012 and said "Fuck this I'm going home"

Haha

Although the Mayan prophecy is not that the world will END in 2012 but that there will be a new and better beginning, whatever that may be.

Who in there right mind would believe the prophecy? The calender maker got tired and moved on to doing other things like baby making and such.

Unless some sort of new disease or nuclear war breaks out, I think we're still set for a long time after 2012. In either case, the Mayans wouldn't have any way of predicting this accurately.

The movie was very interesting. Although it's meant to simply be a piece of entertaining fiction, there are a lot of phenomena in the book explained by science, such as the Earth's pole shift. Which will probably happen someday, changing the world as we know it. When it'll happen is not known, but it's unlikely that it will be on 2012.

You can read up on the topic if you're interested:

Kinda scary to think about how fragile this planet and human life is.
