Almost three weeks ago we created another poll on "Scene releases packed vs unpacked". The timing of this poll was not chosen at random. As announced some time ago, this year we are working increasingly on the frontend and on support for mobile devices. This sometimes requires major structural adjustments, which is why we completely rework and redesign many parts of the tracker .

In the meantime, a very clear result has emerged and the result of the poll can be described as representative. The absolute minority of 17% do not want any changes. The overwhelming majority either want no more packed scene releases (35%) or both (38%).
If we were to change the rules now and no longer allow packed scene releases, we would only postpone the actual problem. That would therefore not be a solution in the sense of the community. So there can only be one variant: In the future, it will be permitted to upload scene releases both in their original state (packed) and unpacked. Of course, this will lead to double releases in the short term. In the long term, what the majority of the community prefers will prevail. For a clear distinction, we will introduce a third tag for original scene releases in addition to the previously known scene and P2P tags.

This represents a profound change in our system, which is why a simple rule change is not enough in this case. We are currently in the process of adapting large parts of the trackerwith regard to this change. This will still take some time, but we wanted to inform you about this rather radical change early on. This gives everyone a little lead time and everyone can (or not) adapt their tool chains accordingly.
The transition is expected to take place in June and will entail a whole new breed of changes. On the one hand, of course, this refers to the technology, but on the other hand there will also be significant changes in the rules. As soon as we know the details, you will find out here first.

Proprietary clients are blocked

In our opinion, Bittorrent clients whose source code is not exposed pose an unnecessary security risk. Ultimately, nobody knows what code is contained in such clients and where which data is sent. Furthermore, these clients often contain advertising and are distributed by commercially motivated companies. We can and we no longer want to support this business model. For this reason, the affected clients will be blocked at the end of the year. This applies in particular to the uTorrent / BitTorrent client. The deadline is deliberately very far in the future so that there is enough transition time for a change.
We recommend the qBittorrent client as a replacement. The client is open source, is actively developed and has established itself as a reliable alternative to uTorrent and Co. in recent years. If qBittorrent is not allowed on another tracker you use, we recommend that you make a whitelist there for qBittorrent.
