To play games with high-end graphics, and 4K videos, you need sufficient VRAM. Increased memory helps your system to perform better and if you are a video editor, it sorts the issues you face while rendering a video. Also, it is important because insufficient VRAM leads to the use of system memory, which will slow your system’s performance.

What Is VRAM?

VRAM or Video RAM is a dedicated part of RAM, which is for graphics cards. It is responsible for keeping the data stored for images and videos played on a computer. It can be defined as the buffer between the processor and the display on your computer. Therefore the higher the video RAM of the system, the more likely to display high graphics.  Integrated graphics cards or dedicated graphics cards are both options to use with your Windows 10 computer. VRAM plays an important part as it will save data for your games, graphics, and effects, lights, etc for video playing.

Increase VRAM in Windows 10

You must change the graphics card to increase VRAM in Windows 10. If you are using an integrated graphics card that will appear as an AMD processing unit or Intel graphics card. Check which Intel graphics card are you using. Thus, you get the desired games and videos played on the system.

If you are using a desktop, it is much easier to get a new graphics card installed on it. While for laptops there are two other methods.

1. Increase VRAM using BIOS-

Modifying BIOS settings on your Windows 10 laptop will help you increase VRAM. To make changes in the BIOS settings, you must go to Settings> Update & Security> Recovery.

Click on Restart now under Advanced startup, now when your computer boots, you get options. Choose Troubleshoot> Advanced options> UEFI Firmware Settings and then Restart. This will boot from UEFI BIOS Windows 10.

Here under Advanced chipset, Advanced Features locate Video Settings, VGA Share Memory Size, Graphics Settings.  Allocate the memory to VRAM upto the maximum allowed for giving more space to system Memory. Now, this is one of the methods to increase VRAM on Windows 10.

2. Increase VRAM using Registry-

If you cannot change the graphics card on your laptop but need to increase VRAM, try changing the registry entry. The value shown for the integrated graphics card is generally what a game will read for how much VRAM it needs. Thus to change this, you need to modify the value from the Registry entries.

Note that it won’t change the actual value of VRAM on your system but make it appear as if it has increased. This helps in allowing games to run on your Windows 10 laptop.

Disclaimer: Before moving ahead with the steps take a backup of registry entries. Open Registry Editor, go to File> Export> Create a backup file. Later on, you can import the file from the saved location. This step is for advanced users and can result in a malfunction of your system, so be cautious before proceeding.

Step 1: Open Registry Editor from the search bar on the taskbar.

Open Registry Editor by clicking on Run as administrator.

Step 2: Go to Computer> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Intel

Right-click on the right-side panel, it will show you the option of a New key. Click on the DWORD (32 bit) Value.

Step 3: Rename this key now to DedicatedSegmentSize.

Step 4: Right-click on the Registry entry, and click on Modify.

Select Decimal on the Base section and type 512 in the Value section. This is the maximum value allowed for the registry entry.

Step 5: Restart the computer to apply the effects.

This method will instantly help you to increase video RAM on your computer.

3. Increase VRAM using dedicated GPU-

When using the previous method does not work for you to increase video RAM on your system, try getting a better solution. The best way to increase VRAM on Windows 10 is to get a dedicated graphics card. This is the most efficient way to have the system perform at its best with the new graphics card which is meant for the gaming of video editing.

Conclusion:

These methods to increase VRAM on Windows 10 will be helpful in letting you play high graphics games and videos on your Windows PC. So, you can apply any of the above-mentioned methods to increase VRAM on Windows. We would like to recommend changing the GPU for the best performance and to increase video RAM for your PC.
