The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been teasing an expansive multiverse for some years now, especially with the title of Doctor Strange 2 being revealed as the Multiverse of Madness. With the season finale of Loki, the stakes winding us down this road are more concrete than ever. Following the show’s conclusion, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania's writer threw in his support (or at least playfully referenced) a popular Marvel theory.

Jeff Loveness is the writer behind the screenplay for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania, which is set to come out in 2023. He shared this response to Loki’s action in the Disney+ finale:

Okay, but in all honesty, if Loki’s actions lead to Venom and Spider-Man competing in some kind of multi-versal game of basketball Space Jam-style, I would be giving the God of Mischief a round of applause. Before we go into wild proportions with this, the tweet is basically fueling the flames of Marvel fans theories, and the hopes and dreams for some major crossovers to open up following that wild ending.

Jeff Loveness might be the perfect person to comment on the Loki finale considering the final episode introduced Jonathan Majors in the MCU. Majors appeared in the episode as “He Who Remains,” but as Marvel fans will know, the Lovecraft Country actor is set to play Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania.

We haven’t quite met Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, but Sylvie does kill He Who Remains, thus allowing the timeline to branch left and right, opening up the multiverse to create Kang. In the episode after the slaying, Loki attempts to warn Owen Wilson’s Mobius, but he cannot remember his TVA advisor. Thus, Loki has entered the Multiverse of Madness, and he’s reportedly going to return next in the 2022 Doctor Strange movie alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen.

Before we see the multiverse unfold in the Doctor Strange sequel, Marvel will introduce two new characters in September’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Two Rings and November’s Eternals. And leading into the Multiverse of Madness, Tom Holland’s Spidey will return for Spider-Man: No Way Home. For the time being, we don’t know much about what’s to come for Peter Parker in the next installment, but many theorize that it will be directly involved in said multiverse.

After all, we’ve learned that Alfred Molina’s Doc Octopus from Spider-Man 2 and Jamie Foxx’s Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will in fact appear in the movie with Tom Holland. It’s believed that these villains will be from other corners of the multiverse. Fans have taken it a step further, theorizing that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will also be Variants of Spider-Man in the film as well.
