New images from the upcoming movie Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman show star Chad Michael Murray transform into the infamous killer. Murray rose to fame playing Lucas Scott on the WB and later The CW's hit teen drama One Tree Hill. The young adult network has proven to be fertile ground for the performer as he returned years later for a stint on their newest hit Riverdale. He carved out a creepy place in the Archieverse as cult leader Edgar Evernever. It seems the once guy next door type has turned to the horror genre in recent years.

Murray will next be seen in the murderous title role in Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman. The horror flick boasts an untold perspective on the notorious tale, focusing on the fearless detective and rookie FBI profiler who led a manhunt for Bundy in the 1970s. Written and directed by Daniel Farrands (The Amityville Murders, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers), the low-budget picture earned extra buzz thanks to their name talent. Of course, people immediately wondered how production would make Murray look like Bundy.

Ahead of the film's August 16 select theatrical release, Bloody Disgusting shared a smattering of exclusive stills from the movie that give a first look at Murray in character as Ted Bundy. A flowing wig and mustache seem to be doing most of the leg work for the actor's transformation, in addition to 1970s wardrobe pieces. Check out the new photos below:

The final picture is perhaps the strongest homage to Bundy. It features Murray in a turtle neck, one of the serial killer's signature clothing items, as well as a recreation of one of his Volkswagen Beetles. The outlet also shared a few snaps featuring the actor's co-stars, which include horror movie icon Lin Shaye (Insidious) and Holland Roden (Teen Wolf), who plays Kathleen McChesney, a detective tracking Bundy out of the Seattle Police bureau.

Murray doesn't particularly look like Bundy sans costume, but perhaps his performance will sell viewers. It will likely draw comparisons to the most recent star to play the murderer: fellow teen heartthrob Zac Efron in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile. Of course, the High School Musical icon actually bore a bit of resemblance to the criminal. While Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman answers the question of what a Chad Michael Murray Ted Bundy looks like, it beckons another ongoing query: when will movies about Ted Bundy stop being made?
