DC League of Super-Pets producer, Hiram Garcia, teases a charming story. While much of the attention is currently on DC’s upcoming projects like Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the star-studded Flash movie, and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, Super-Pets is another DC offering starring The Rock slated for a release next year. As an animated film focusing on famous DC heroes' dogs and cats, Super-Pets is naturally expected to deviate from much of the DCEU’s live-action fare.

Since Super-Pets was first announced in 2018, there have only been a few updates regarding the project. DC started by hiring creative talents with experience in animation, including Jared Stern (The LEGO Batman Movie) as writer and co-director alongside Sam Levine, who has worked on various animated films. After a 10-second teaser debuted at DC FanDome, the most recent Super-Pets announcement came earlier this summer when much of the cast was confirmed, including Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, and Keanu Reeves.

Now, another small Super-Pets tease is here. Hiram Garcia, the President of Seven Bucks Productions who co-founded the company alongside Dwayne Johnson, recently did an interview with Collider to discuss all the anticipated projects they have in the works. Black Adam is first and foremost, but Netflix’s Red Notice is also expected to make waves with its star-studded cast. Garcia also shared a tease for DC’s Super-Pets, calling the animated film “a charming story.” Read what Garcia had to say below:

It’s a lot of fun. As a Superman fan and a huge dog lover, having the ability to tell the story of Krypto and Superman is a dream come true! It’s such a charming story and then in addition we get to introduce the league of Super-Pets and all those wonderful characters. We have such an amazing cast of actors, and anytime you can get Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart together doing what they do, you know it's going to be a big, fun ride for audiences.

Since very little is known about Super-Pets' cast of characters, let alone the story, this is a welcome tease from one of the project’s producers. So far, the only two confirmed characters are Krypto the Super-Dog, Clark Kent’s canine companion voiced by Dwayne Johnson, and Ace the Bat-Hound, Bruce Wayne's trusted pet dog voiced by Kevin Hart. The film’s official synopsis mentions Krypto teaming up with a flying cat, so Streaky the Supercat (Supergirl’s pet feline) will likely appear as well.

Until DC reveals the full list of Super-Pets for the film, along with some substantive plot details, Garcia’s tease will have to do for now. Based on his comments, Super-Pets seems to be geared towards younger audiences and is likely aiming for a PG rating from the MPAA, which is to be expected given its subject matter and animated format. With The Suicide Squad and The Batman set to hit theaters with an R-rating, followed by more traditional PG-13 superhero films, DC appears to be offering something for everyone under its loosely connected cinematic universe.
