Jeffrey Dean Morgan Has High Praise for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has great things to say about the latest DCEU film, The Suicide Squad. James Gunn’s take on Task Force X comes five years after David Ayer’s original film and blends a brand-new cast of characters with some old DC favorites, including Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag. Many wondered how Gunn would evolve the Suicide Squad formula and with the film hitting theaters and HBO Max this weekend, they have their answer.

A playful twist on the Suicide Squad corner of the DCEU, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad sees the return of characters of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courntey) alongside newcomers such as Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), and Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian). Dispatched on a covert mission to the island nation of Corto Maltese at the behest of Waller, the team of DC villains is forced into a dangerous search and destroy mission. If they succeed, they get time removed from their prison sentence, and if they fail (or choose not to cooperate) they die.

Now that The Suicide Squad has hit screens all across the country, the film has received widespread praise for its colorful, bombastic, and delightfully weird take on the titular squad. One such fan of the film is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who took to his Twitter account to praise James Gunn’s work on the film and offer up his services for future collaboration. Morgan posted:

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is no stranger to films inspired by DC Comics. In fact, his credits in DC adaptations range from his role in 2009’s Watchmen to 2010’s The Losers (a film that even has some Suicide Squad elements) alongside The Suicide Squad star Idris Elba, as well as a role in 2010’s Jonah Hex. Morgan also entered the main DCEU continuity in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Thomas Wayne. Now it’s clear that he wants to do something under the direction of Gunn.

Exactly how Jeffrey Dean Morgan wants to collaborate with Gunn remains to be seen, but something under the DC banner would undoubtedly prove popular among many fans. Much has been said about Morgan’s brief stint as Thomas Wayne and the possibility of him donning a cape and cowl for a turn as Batman from the Flashpoint universe. If that happens, or if he takes on an entirely new role under Gunn’s direction, getting Morgan back into the DC fold would likely be well-received by a large portion of the fanbase. For now, The Suicide Squad is currently in theaters and available to view on HBO Max.
