Tom Holland Is Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker In Spider-Man Deepfake

Tom Holland becomes Andrew Garfield's version of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man series. Years after Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire's take on the Marvel hero, Sony relaunched the character and brought in Garfield to play him, while Marc Webb directed. The first installment was released in 2012, followed by the sequel in 2014. However, due to various factors, including less-than-ideal reviews for the sequel, the budding franchise was ultimately canceled.

This gave way to the historic collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony, resulting in another recasting of the web-slinging hero. Holland was brought in to be a part of the MCU; he debuted in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. The next year, he starred in his solo film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, followed by Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. All in all, the current iteration of the character has appeared in five films — more than anyone else who portrayed the part. At the end of the year, Holland is reprising the role again, potentially for one last time in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Plot specifics for the blockbuster are still scant, but it's hyped up to be Peter's biggest journey yet.

Given the success of Marvel and Sony's ongoing Spider-Man, YouTube channel stryderHD imagined what it would be like if Holland starred in The Amazing Spider-Man films instead of Garfield. A brand new deep-fake video imagines how this would look like and frankly, it feels a bit odd despite the impressive visual effects. Watch the clip below:

Not that Holland is a bad actor; he is great. Outside of the Spider-Man films, he had proven himself to be able to transcend genres. The problem lies in the fact that Garfield, too, was great in his superhero role. Despite the issues that The Amazing Spider-Man movies had, it would be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn't like his portrayal of Peter Parker. Granted, he's much older than the character he was playing on the screen, but he still did it with youthful charm and wonder. Finally, his chemistry with Emma Stone, who played Gwen Stacy was electric and is arguably one of the best elements of the Webb flicks.

It's been years since Garfield's time as the wall-crawler came to an abrupt end after Sony pulled the plug on The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. But if rumors turn out to be true, he could be reprising the role again in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Speculations have been rampant that Marvel Studios and Sony are working on a live-action adaptation of the Spider-Verse narrative for their upcoming collaboration. Garfield has already denied the claims, although he walked back on it, and said that anything is possible. But at this point, it's still difficult to be certain without any concrete indication like a set photo or an official look.
