13th annual 'Give to the Music' benefit raises funds for underserved music students

Local musicians took to the stage Saturday night at the Orange Peel for the 13th annual Give to the Music Benefit.

Student musicians ranged in age from pre-teens to adults.

Saturday night's headliner was Tommy DeCarlo, lead singer of the legendary rock band, Boston.

Funds raised from the event will go towards lessons, instruments and scholarships for underserved music students in the Asheville area.

"Our kids, they're not just coming for music, but they're also coming to learn to play together as a band," said Dena Clark, director of Give to the Music. "They're learning to be accepting, to be nonjudgmental, to be a group where everybody can come and do music and have a great time."
